I kinda liked it. Though Sanzo was way out of character. I'm not sure I see him just randomly firing like that, but I suppose it's possible. But why would he ever need to call for help from the merciful goddess? He'd rather shot himself than ask her for anything, especially since he can reseal Goku with a new headband himself. I have not read the manga didn't know there was one till a few days ago but in episodes 22 and 49 he does give Goku a headband with his own power.
