This was an amazing story. I'm not a big fan of stories where Sodapop is in Vietnam, but I really liked this one. I especially liked how he wasn't 'happy go lucky' and you showed a deeper side to him. Very nicely done!

Wow, this was so good! I realize I'm incredibly late reviewing this, but I just read it and had to anyway. I love the way you captured this detached feeling of it all -- so perfect. I find Vietnam fics very interesting and this one is brilliantly written. Kudos.

Once again, it deals very well with the emotions of the soldier. I feel bad for that kid though, the one who stepped on the exsplosive. ;-;
Poor Soda, even a fighter like him can fall.. Him burning the letter kind of makes me think of what Darry and Ponyboy must be going through with him gone too... ('Specially since he doesn't come back... Poor Pony and Darry...(Gosh, everyone is just poor. ^.^;;))

Very well written, and I can't wait to see more stories similair to this one by you. x3

damn...thank actually made me cry. Sodapop is my favoirte charactor, and I just found out today that Hinton had him go to war...and not come back.

THis was wonderfuly written, you captured the grimness of war and put it all behind Soda's eyes. It was beautiful.

Love it, love it! Soda's voice is great - I could tell right from the beginning it was him. I love the parallel he draws between the platoon LT and Dallas. I love Vietnam-era fics with Soda especially, because it's that knowledge he doesn't come out of it that makes everything so poignant. I really love the last lines of this...fantastic!

That was sort of eerie.

It'd be so sick there, it's weird to read Soda's POV though. I mean rarely do people right about that, you know. But it was incredibly well written, you are SOO talented, Sarah!

I like how this shows a different side of Soda that we don't usually see. I think that having Hinton say that he died in the war was for the best because even if he had returned, he wouldn't have been the same person at all.

You've got really great descriptions as well. I can picture everything and the wording is very specific so you definitely know what you're talking about (although I don't think any of us questioned that).

And your dialogue is great too. Very realistic and natural.

It didn't feel very one-shot like to me for some odd reason, but it may be because I'm too exhausted to tell the difference, lol.

That was... I really liked that. Just the simple, unconnected feel of it. Anyone would be melancholy (and I use that term loosely, 'cause that barely covers anything except the beginning) in that situation, and Soda is not unable to become jaded. I really don't think it was too extreme.
