now this what i want! wow, chris, i was blown away by this story. never knew kiryuu had such a complex history. all the emotons an drama! my favoite parts were when kiryuu was fighting godzilla the frist time and when he hit with the EMP and gets closed in in own mind i guess? he saw visions of godzilla and his human firend.kiryuu having feeling for katsura was kind of strange though. so should so make a comic of this!
i'm kind of jealous now, i never got this in depth with my characters. anyway, awesome story!
p.s. one questions: if katsura and kiryuu had some kind of mental link now and if one dies so does the other, so when katsura grows old and dies would kiryuu die too? if so, hows does he come about in your halo story?
wee, long review, well you need more reviews. diffinity going to read the rest!

abuseThis was such an awesome story and it completely blows away Toho's professional efforts with their Kiryu duology. Toho utterly wasted the great opportunity they had when Kiryu went besserk in GXMG, but this is an idea you excellent picked up on and ran wildly with. The very thought of Mechagodzilla becoming sentient and questioning his human creators' motives as a people, as a species, is something I wish we had got to see in the movies themselves.

Fortunately for us, because you are such an intelligent writer, you gave us something that we've only dreamed about. The storyline of the human characters was also well developed. And it goes back to that idea of human morality versus the cold logic of machines. There are very few Godzilla movies made where I care about the human drama. The Kiryu duology was no different. But thankfully, your story broke from this mold and gave us characters with well rounded personalities. Gordon, Will, Katsura, and Kiryu himself all gave incredible characterizations that kept the pace of this story moving at an unstoppable rate, very much like Godzilla himself.

It is Godzilla whom I feel is given less than the star treatment in each of your Mechagodzilla stories, but your stories arent really about him as they are about Mechagodzilla himself and how he changes the world. So, in conclusion, I wish this story had been GXMG instead of what Toho actually gave us. This story, and the subsequent sequels, had a lot more going for it than what we saw on DVD.

Excellent work!

abuseOnly two reviews so far for such an awesome story? That's not fair.
Amazing job; you characterised Mechagodzilla in a way that no other kaiju story has ever done with anything else. Reading about how he sees the world really makes you think about... well, all of life's aspects in general. The battle scenes were also very well-done (I liked the Looney Toons homage). You're a great philosopher and a great writer. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go and read your other stories.

abuseAh, Kiryuu in his "infancy"...it's so fascinating to see how far he's come. From a cold, seemingly unfeeling machine to the sexy beast we now know. Heh, I remember being thrilled by that simple line where you compared him to an autistic child. I guess that kind of made me identify with him and want to see him grow as a character. Reading this made me feel like I've literally watched Kiryuu grow up. :)
