What happened to Cedric Diggory? He was killed, not to protect Harry, but he was still killed, and Harry still blamed himself over it. The spiel seemed to be about people dying to protect Harry though, and if that was it then Sirius and Dumbledore didn't really die "protecting" Harry. Sirius died battling Bellatrix, but Bellatrix wasn't really a threat to Harry at the time, and Harry was under the invisibility cloak when Dumbledore died, and Draco couldn't see him so Harry wasn't in any real danger there anyways. The only person that seemed to have died protecting Harry was Ginny.
