abuseThis was really interesting. I'm not sure I've ever read anything quite like this.

I like the dark atmosphere, and how you are gradually giving clues to Hisoka and Tsuzuki's past. Tsuzuki's insight into their 'abusive' relationship was intriguing. The inner demons of the characters made them more deep, and definitely pulled me in.

I'll be looking for a new chapter if it pops up.

abuseThis is an interesting story. Good job of expressing Tsuzuki's depression and Hisoka's icy rage. No worries about timely updates, I just hope that you do eventually as I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes.

abuseCool story so far; I'm really enjoying it. Don't kill yourself trying to update--wait until semester ends. What with term papers, finals, applications, interviews and everything else, it's a wonder to me that anyone in college gets *anything* creative done this time of the year. I'll check back whenever you get the next bit up!

abuseDamn. What a chapter. Definitely worth the wait. Jeez, I still feel the lingering effects of it. Tsuzuki's depression was written so well that well ... for someone who is currently in a kind like position it was hard to read it but I'm glad I struggled through it. Anyways, let's keep this review on the chapter.
I liked how you made the abussive relationship Hisoka and Tsuzuki have into something positive. How you were able to analyze it so good and find the positive things behind it like Hisoka doesn't like to touch someone yet he has no problem with touching bTsuzuki to hit him or stamp him on his foot. It just shows how comfortable Hisoka really is in Tsuzuki's pressence and how he has accepted his partner.
Furthermore I don't think Hisoka has ever learned in his young life to express his feelings towards someone else or has had someone else express feelings towards him in a good way. It's like a child that grows up with its father hitting him all the time. When the child becomes a parent himself he doesn't know anything better then to hit his child also to express feelings towards his child even though he knows how much it hurts the child and inside himself wishes he could do things differently, yet he doesn't know how.
And let us not forget that Hisoka is starting to mellow his punches so they don't hurt Tsuzuki anymore that bad. Hisoka wants to show his emtions but doesn't know how to do that, how to be in a normal relationship, so he does the only thing he can and that is to make sure that his puunches don't come over that hard.
It's also cute to see how those very small changes in Hisoka don't go unnoticed by Tsuzuki and how he is able to know what is going through Hisoka just by for instance a very small twitch. It proves that he knows his younger partner already pretty well just as Hisoka knows Tsuzuki already well cause he knows with what he does Tsuzuki the most pleasure with as a way for apoligizing for earlier behaviour by for instance filling out Tsuzuki's paperwork which is for our brunet a real struggle.
And yes I agree, observing a person closely can already reveal a lot about a person. NOt everything but certainly more than enough to draw some correct conclusions.
But God reading about how hard Tsuzuki's live became as soon as Hisoka wasn't around anymore, well damn. Mostly we always get to see this strong Tsuzuki who supports a weak Hisoka in stories but you really show us two people with each their own problems that in a way are just too much for them too handle and that makes you wonder where it's going to end and if they will be able to save each other from self destructing.
And yes, I think you described Tsuzuki's depression very, very good. Take it from some one who has been there, hated it and unfortunately has currently a relapse.
"How long would he be able to survive this?" I know exactly the feeling. It's a very powerful sentence that you put in here.
The dream (if we can call it that) with Muraki in it was beautiful. I loved how you made Muraki and Tsuzuki meet each other for the first time although one can wonder if it is really the first time seeing as Tsuzuki doesn't remember the dream when he wakes up. Maybe he has had them already before.
And it makes me all the more curious how you are going to fit Muraki into your story and what will happen between our two partners and with them when Muraki makes his pressence known. And is your note on that AMV with 'El Tango de Roxanne' a hint to what is to come? Why do I feel like it is?
Take your time and yes, real life comes first.
Wonderful chapter and I'll be waiting patiently for the next one. By the way. Loved your song choice.

ch 4,
abuseSah, people should be ashamed that they don't review such a great idea and story.
Anyways on to chapter four.
I loved to read about Hisoka's interrogation skills. I could already imagine people cringe away from him during an interrogation while he just stands there and glares at them. Hisoka's glare is more deadly then any possible weapon, LOL.
Tsubaki's short appearence has raised a lot of questions. It makes you just all the more curious about Hisoka's past. What exactly has happened to the boy for him to push everyone, even his lover, away?
At the same time you start to question the government. Was Tsubaki right when she said that the real bastard is the government or is her vision distorted?
And yes, shooting someone in the back isn't really something you prefer to due cause it feels like cheating. But it was a nice way to change the situation from a Hisoka who hasn't killed yet and now gets forced to kill Tsubaki in the anime to a Hisoka who is used to killing people and now has to take out Tsubaki who isn't afraid to use a gun either and yet have this situation in which the shooting of Tsubaki holds some unjustice. Nicely done.
Bah Hisoka shouldn't have slung himself on Tsuzuki. Tsuzuki should just have noticed the tears running down the boy's face as he silently walked towards him and then passed him without a word leaving Tsuzuki behind him in the rain. The scene you created seems just to sudden for the kind of relationship they currently have developped between them. But that's my opinion.
The song is a great choice. Not one I knew but I loved it and it fitted the chapter.

ch 3,
abuseHey,

first of all let me say that I totally adore your idea of writting a fanfiction with music coupled to it. I'm also a huge music fan and also agree that music is such a powerful force to bring things, actions, emotions, ... over (Music is the key!). Many times when I write something, I'm inspired by certain songs and as I write it all out, I'm always sad that I can't do it like in an anime and insert music at certain times to make the story even more powerful. I think you've come up with a good compromise here for this problem.
Secondly, I'm no fan of AU stories. I prefer to stay in the universe that we all know and love but when a story is really good, I will let myself be persuaded to read it and look I've made it through the first three chapters already so that must say something. I think it's because you've coupled a song to each chapter and because of the darker on take of the story. Lately I find myself more drawn to such stories cause the emotions in such stories are ten times more powerful and more raw then in those fluffy, 'the world is such a beautiful place' fics (not that anything is wrong with those fics either cause I still enjoy reading them too but well my interests are more evolved and bigger now).
Okay, first chapter:
The intro was very powerful and described very well how the state of the country is and why in God's name you would want to avoid joining the HIMOP. It announced very well the darkness that is going to be found in this story and well ... I'm certain that people who don't like dark fics will be put off with reading it by this first chapter. Really a good tone setter!
The music choice was excellent. I didn't know the song yet but as it played on my computer while I read this intro, I just couldn't help but agree with your music choice and it helped imagining certain stuff. Well done!
Chapter two:
Introducing our two favourite characters and in such a way that it reminds you of the Yami no Matsuei universe because their characters, although you can feel that they are more darker in this story, remind you so well of how they are in the original story.
Loved how Hisoka is now older but that you still kept that '6' at the end, 26 instead of 16.
But I wonder if Tsuzuki is really worth all the praise Konoe gave him or that we are in a simular situation as the anime where they lied to Hisoka about Tsuzuki's work record so Hisoka would agree to pair up with Tsuzuki. Yet, let us be honest. In a way I still feel like Tsuzuki deserved the praise he got in the anime cause okay he may be a slacker and be idiotic at times but when it is needed, he sobers up and is a force to reckon with.
Song choice was once again excellent. The lyrics just spoke volums and just added to what happened in this second chapter. Plus the song helped to go from chapter two to chapter three, in my opinion at least. And in some strange way I also felt like it held a warning for the future, but I may be reading too much into it.
Chapter three:
Darkness, darkness and some more darkness. I just love it! A drunken Tsuzuki and am I right in assuming that in the brown paper bag of Hisoka are drugs?
You wrote drunken Tsuzuki very well and I especially loved the line where he said he would fall also should Hisoka fall and then that dark voice said: "It's a promise." Jeez, I had shivers running down my back and absolutely adored the darkness flowing out of that one sentence. Brilliant!
And what to think of Hisoka's altar for the person he loaths the most in the world. In a way this is also sick and twisted cause an altar is normally not for people you loath. Just fantastic idea. And is it Tatsumi in the picture?
Have my reservations about the song choice. It seems more like a song for further down the track but well I can't think of a better song for the moment. Should I come up with one, I'll let you know, okay?
Nice beginning and I am definitely looking forward to more.
Kisses and hugs
