Really interesting. I like the look into a scene of kel's life. i think it was quite well written- the use of mostly dialogue worked well in this story.

Oh, I wish there was more to this, but it is lovely and complete as it is. You know, the comparison between Lerant and Peachblossom is really perfect--that same ornery, prickly edge to them both!

I so loved this. It was such a random chain of events...Lerant was cute in this (naturally)!

I have to say, the more different pairings I read, the more I like Kel and Lerant; it seems to make so much sense, I just read that and went...yes, that's RIGHT, that's what they would be like. I would love to be as articulate as the previous review, but basically, great story, thanks.

So you were the one who started Kel/Lerant as my new Tortall OTP, and Sally just finished me off this week. Her stuff gave me thinky thoughts, so I came back to read yours. I was curious to see if you'd given them the same dynamic.

Your "Crazy" fic actually did have them in the same light as Sally's take on them-- Kel as the one in the position of power in the (hidden) relationship. She calls the shots, initiates the conversation and (I imagine) the making out too. You wrote her the same way as Sally, where she's got this urge to be mean to him, because it's there in her, and she knows she can with him, even though it's wrong and unhealthy for both of them. But the temptation is there, because he's the one person in her life that seems to actually see her pretty clearly. She's a kind person, but not a nice one, not with that pragmatic streak, and how well she reads people, and not after what she's been through with people letting her down and treating her badly. And Lerant's just about the only person who seems to get that distinction between kind and nice, and so she's got this temptation to let it out around him, because she doesn't think she can with anyone else. Which would not lead to a healthy relationship. And I think they are both aware of this, and keep edging around each other. Because they also really like each other, and if they could manage to stop sneaking around, brave all the social criticism they'd get for shacking up together (both of them social outcasts to start with), and work out (or on) their issues, they could actually be really happy together.

But yes, both you and Sally wrote that kind of scary edge to the relationship that makes me go e. It's the potential for both the good and the bad that I guess is so compelling in putting them together.

So in this fic, I was happy to see Lerant taking more of a foward role and making Kel work to keep up with him. The "crocus" bit was possibly the most endearing compliment I've read in a story this year. And this:

“I’m afraid you’re getting the impression that I did this for you,” sniffed Lerant, shifting his weight and not entirely unreminiscent of Peachblossom. “Since when am I on your side?”

“Right,” said Kel uncertainly before turning to leave Lerant’s designated, curtained area. "I'll see you later."

Lerant watched Kel make her way back out of the infirmary, as she stopped along the way - calling jokes to, and chatting with her men – and just a bit on edge.

Lerant closed his eyes. “See you.”

Prickly, uncertain, holding back, seeing one another clearly but giving/getting the most mixed signals EVER, sweet but bittersweet. Yeah. --Imo

This was good. I haven't seen one like this before, I don't think. Good job.
