The first Rufus/Yuffie I've read and it turns out to be not unawesome ;). You got down that odd, playful yet sweetly cunning side that is the essence of Yuffie and Rufus' arrogant demeanor down pat! So, even if I am mostly a Clouffie individual, your fic just found a space on my faves list :)

I'm a bit confused on the ages. Perhaps you can clear things up for me.

There are four segments.

The first states that Yuffie is five years old.

The second shows that Rufus is twelve.

Third says Rufus is seventeen.

Fourth states Yuffie as nineteen.

I had the assumption by reading .. though I can't seem to find the sentence to confirm this, but I was sure I read it, that Rufus was seven years older than Yuffie. Assuming that the first two segments were connected.

But according to the third and last segment, it is only a three year difference. Tell me if I'm wrong.

First segment says that Yuffie is five, which would make Rufus eight.

Second segment states Rufus twelve, which would make Yuffie nine.

Third shows Rufus as seventeen, which would make Yuffie fourteen.

And five years later, in the last segment, it reads Yuffie as nineteen, making Rufus twenty-four.

Wow. Okay. Is that right?

That was some kind of extra-ordinaire pairing, wasn' it? Yet, you made it so believable, a very nice could-be scenario. Perfecto. Loved the headphone cord stuff. And their childhood moments, which made let out an 'aww'... :)

This was amazingly done, I loved it! It was quiet but strangely profound... Well, I dunno. Really fun to read, though. Glad someone who can write like you wanted to try out Ruffie.

... heh heh, ruffie.

you know... i think it's a testament to your skills that whenever i see something with your name attached pop into my inbox, i barely manage to set it aside until i'm absolutely positive i have the time to be awed and give a worthy review because it's the least i can do for such fantasic stories!

i love how subtle you are with your characters - you let them speak for themselves. for me, that's the crowning glory of a story, since my world revolves around characters, and the mark of a master.

the first one: i love how it's from Shinra Sr.'s perspective... the things he wants for and from his son, and how obvious the culture split is: "the towering spires and veiled complexities of Wutai", "the Wutaian leader had had enough of ties of blood". Also, i really liked this sentence: "(after he had grown out his hair and she had cut hers and they had grown closer to filling the shoes of the scions they were born to be)". the description of Yuffie as fate and a force of nature was perfect, too!

i love the ending sentence of the second one. both fathers are filled with expectation and hope, for their empires and their children, and it was short and wistful.

"even though he was crazy rich and kinda cute and sort of politically invulnerable, she could still kick his ass in the only way that counted." Love it! I also love the headphones thing! it made me snort in a very-unladylike (and maybe slightly Yuffieish) fashion. i love how even when she's heartbroken she's fighting -the loud music, the wicked grin at possibly waking up Rufus, the smart ass way she decides to get his attention.

i really enjoyed the cynical and methodical affection Rufus regards Yuffie with. Both of them, really, are impeccably in-character, and you found the niche that makes them work. i think what really did it for me, though, was how it wasn't so much about Yuffie and Reno but also their fathers: that's such a strong thread they have in common. and it brings it into reality for me.

ah, you're wonderful and never cease to amaze me. thank you for making my day.
