I've read all of your other work and this is still my favorite -- even after the fourth reading. It is so, so heart-rendingly beautiful and poignant. You have such a gift for dialogue and character; many times I got goosebumps.

I eagerly await your next chapter.

I believe I must simply find potatoes hilarious, because I have an uncontrollable urge to put 'I am the potato' on a T-shirt. When Hermione started referencing the Mr. Potato Head doll, I started giggling once again, but then stopped abruptly to immediately feel bad at "He had been a toy...etc."

I really loved the differences between the first letter and what he ended up sending; I can imagine the changes between each as he rewrote it over and over again.

Once again, awesome stuff! I can't wait to see how Ginny's going to botch things up for the two.

P.S. - TOTALLY have never heard of "sarky" before! Thought that was meant to be "snarky" at first; I learned something today!

Such a great story! You've done a wonderful job of keeping all involved in character. I especially loved the chapter with the twins in Hermione's office. (I must say, you write them VERY well.)

That being said, my absolute favourite line so far is, "Please, Severus, drop the potato." It's really a great line and wonderful advice, but I have to admit that I laughed for a good ten minutes as I kept going back and re-reading it. The only thing I can think of is Snape getting caught redhanded with a real potato in his hands. (You should know that I've had to stop about three times to calm myself just typing that out!) I really do like that hot potato analogy, though; I've never heard it said quite that way, but I fully intend to use it the next time one of my friends is caught up in a grudge.

Anyway, the story is wonderful and I'm going to continue reading it now!

It is interesting Snape keeps his focus narrow. Whether this is to avoid unpleasant topics or just to reestablish contact, I do not know. Hermione has dithered long enough. She did relay quite a bit in a few sentences. She has allowed others to have a say in how she lives her life and now it appears she is incapable of making a move without their approval. How sad. It is amusing she did not answer his question.

I could misunderstand but I like to think that the simple and brief question in Severus’s note “are you well?” reflects the same anxious state of mind in Hermione: the indecision, the fear to say too much and yet the unbearable fear of the silence.

Thank you for coming back to this story. I agree with everything borgprincess said in her review and she said it much better than I could. Also I'm glad you had Ron and Harry take the news of the relationship as caring friends instead of the raging morons most fics show them becoming. Hope they talk to Ginny before she causes real damage.

Oh, I've been re-reading, and I must say, I haven't cried at a story in years. Not even HP7 when Sevvy died. Not even scores and scores of fanfiction has elicited so much emotion from me. So I do thank you for writing this.

This was unexpected. No pun intended. I didn't think you'd come back to this, but I kept in my alert though. Glad I did, I like this story a lot.
I like that she told him about her worries, it's the best way she can solve them. I hope he'll react well at this.

I'm relieved at Hermione's response. I can't predict your story, of course, but I was worried she might show too much insecurity and then Snape would disappear and... It's funny how invested I get in fiction.

Also, I'm glad she thinks he'd be worth it, even if her heart did get broken.

Simple honesty is always a tricky concept in the HP world. Snape has certainly known little enough of it. It's very daring of Hermione to try it!
