There seem to be a lot of theories floating around that Matt's past is like this (and it does seem to fit his character) but your story is the best of these I've read yet. Update soon! (out of curiousity...how does everybody know Matt's hair is red? I don't remember reading that or seeing it in any scans anywhere...)

D': The thing is that the tone of it isn't even especially sad, it's just the events, but the way he tries not to care too much, to be a big grown up and keep on living on his own, gets the reader right where it hurts, and squeezes. Wonderful.
