Very dark, complicated yet very true to the characters. A Quiet Mind is what Bobby doesn't have...more like a runaway mind, and in ch.1 it felt like you were scripting a psychotic break which would be plausible. Excellent treatment of Alex--her complex and parallel thoughts on ending it too, which most fanfic writers can't manage (the average treatment is that she forgives him everything...you get the picture). You really caught the contradictory thoughts of people who are "that close." I had to re-read Alex's closing and the end of ch.2 to realize that somehow they would continue...maybe.

BTW, small authenticity note, in NYC you can't smoke in bars.

Please let them be all right in the end. This is really depressing.
