I love how you have him envious of his best friend...I always wondered if that was something he struggled with before the Curtis parents died. I think that Johnny was probably the one he could relate to most, although I bet Steve never would've said so - he is probably the type that thinks complaining about emotional abuse looks small next to the physical abuse Johnny suffered. I want to hug Steve after reading this.
