Oh wow, that caught me off guard with how good it was. What I mean by that was that it was so Claire-ish and well done, I was enjoying it, but then suddenly the last three paragraphs, and the last line - BAM, tears streaming down my cheeks. Whew! Wasn't expecting to be crying, especially since it was so short.

Aw, poor Claire! "I might never see Zach again." Aw! Very sad - lovely summing up of their split. Sorry I'm rubbish at giving creative reviews, but I love this one.

I really liked this image:
"My heart is unraveling like a ball of string, a little more gone with each turn of the hard rubber tires."
It really got across Claire's homesickness to me. The whole ficlet combines any teenager's nervousness at their first time out in the world alone, with the extra twist that Claire's going into real danger, and may not come back.
Nice portrayal of her feelings for Zach too, her uncertainty about him. Shows how much she's come to feel he's the one person she can depend on.

aww. So very sad!
