Bravo, Charro. I love the way you described Jarod's unhappy life, and also of his hopes and dreams of having a family with the whole white picket fence bit.
Even pretenders like Jarod can't keep pretending they are cheery all the time, reality does catch up on their escape, escape of a normal life as well. I think you illustrated this with a brutal charm. The tv eps were perhaps longer, but they usually didn't linger this much at emotional issues.
