Don't you love reviewers whose whole premise is "I don't get it," and then they think that necessarily means that it's the writer's problem?

I liked it. Which is possibly not any more valid than saying I didn't like it, but...oh well. The last sentence was especially good. And I like how you remind us that Ben has reading glasses. I hadn't thought about him reading without them before.

i don't want to be mean, but i don't get the whole point of this story. If it was the first chapter of a longer story, i'd add it to my alerts because it's a GREAT beginning. I'd suggest using this as an introduction to a story of your own and somehow tie it in with his situation.
