I really liked that bit after all the quotes were finished, the way you described it

"We don’t shatter, we break down, and then melt back together.

It’s sticky, and it’s too close, and it’s messy. It hurts and suffocates, and every time it happens, it gets harder to stop.

Because the bonds, those things we most want to break, are the only things that will stay whole through it all."

this was an amazing bit, like a perfectly placed climax. Especially the center paragraph, trully wonderful!

[And thus, we hail all four-in-the-morning inspirations which, at the expense of Katia’s sanity and well-being, give us her brilliance. Still, I may need to have a Talk with you, too, if this keeps up. Sleep is important for a Growing Girl.]
“If the Souma curse were just a transformation of the body, we could all bear it.”
- Oh love. Right off the bat we establish the curse-topic and delving into the real curse.

“The real curse…is that we break things.”
- Favorite line so far, which, okay, isn’t far but it so isn’t dropping lower than second, because with the lead up and everything, it’s so perfect. “The… touch something and it’s going to flee philosophy they live with.”

“Maybe we’re gluttons for punishment…
“Or maybe we love harder than they can bear…
“Or maybe it’s even that we don’t think we can love at all.”
- That, with… I would have felt cheesy pulling the entire middle of the fic, but OH MY GOD. Those with those perfect quotes and almost-quotes interwoven, and you could just hear them thinking it… Okay, I love this entire perspective thing. This “we”. The Group. It’s so brilliant, such a perfect way of impressing how their lives run on… I mean, there’s just something so brilliantly simple and wonderful about putting them together, and something so incredibly perfectly symbolic about a sort of mass-consciousness.

This is getting off-topic, however. What I wanted to rant about was first of all the devise of those hypotheses together with those perfect quotes, and second about the hypotheses themselves. There is just nothing more compelling than the ways in which loving too hard and not at all, and the fears of both, play, and the way things always turn out so they have to start blaming themselves, “common denominator is us”, but… oh. I just… love.

“We touch those we love, and they shatter.”
- Because, touch-and-shatter analogy. I don’t how you do it, really I don’t, it’s like there’s built-in prophecy in your writing. And also because… excuse me while I go sob. Why don’t YOU have to issue tissue-warnings?

“We try our hardest to break each other…and we do, but that’s different.
We don’t shatter, we break down, and then melt back together.”
- Damn you for making every single line so quotable and perfect and where-the-eff-do-you-get-your-talent-and-inspiration… And because it’s so THEM. I do so love this aspect of the curse, the real curse, all the Shigure-ness it brings to mind… Like falling and grabbing things and realizing that solid ground doesn’t work once you’re used to the wind, and even if you do want to stay it’s going to crumble anyway so eventually why bother but they DO bother… I can’t even understand me anymore…

“It’s sticky, and it’s too close, and it’s messy. It hurts and suffocates, and every time it happens, it gets harder to stop.”
- Oh, the beautiful, realistic fantasy. Especially like the “sticky” and “messy” touches, because they add the nasty, unromantic realism. Sometimes people aren’t terrifying; they’re just annoying. And not in a funny way. But… even more, “it gets harder to stop.” Habits. Path of least resistance. Stories make grooves, and each time they play out they dig deeper and it’s harder to get out once you’re in one…

“Because the bonds, those things we most want to break, are the only things that will stay whole through it all.”
- And this becomes my favorite line, not just of this fic, but possibly of all FB lines ever, taken in context. “Pain has been the only constant in your life - the one thing that has never abandoned you.” Anything that harkens to Jasmine/Connor wins instant wonderfulness. And more, it is so beautifully true. Truth. Beauty. Love. But not Freedom…

Oh, yes, this fic reigns. You reign. GOD. You are… unfathomable in your talent.

Ooh, I really liked this; it's quite dark, but very, very true. The worst part of the Sohmas' curse is the bonds, not the physical transformations. The last line gave me the shivers, though: "And that makes them the most beautiful and the most terrible of chains." Awesome!

... how sad is it that I see the title "crack" and then go "you can't possibly put the word 'serious' in the summary"

But it is serious.

...wah, makes me want to cry. Very good use of quotes.

I especially like,
'Or maybe we love harder than they can bear.
‘”My greatest regret, is that that thing came out of my body.”'

Mutating curse! er, no. But, like one of those famed chinese finger traps... the more you struggle to get out of the bonds, the worse it gets.

Tis very good for a random out-of-nowhere fic.
