| moon71 2007-07-13 ch 1, | abuseI'm sorry to have taken so long to catch up with reviews as well as for posting my own stuff!! But here I am! Well of course I loved this - I have always loved your Illyrian stories since I read the first one and enjoyed it so much even with the formatting problems you were having. As always, its the details of the wild world and of Hephaestion's work to make life for him and Alexander more comfortable that help to make it such a pleasant read. Little things like the ingredients of the meal and the presense of the hungry wolves make it special, but my favourite was the moment with the deer, especially the does clustering adoringly around their handsome stag. Hephaestion's behaviour is so natural - he admires them but that doesn't stop him doing what is necessary. Hunting was such a fundamental part of Macedonian life that sentiment couldn't have entered into it, but what you show is more realistic - respect along with realism. Nature itself must have been almost inescapable for these young men - it was more than a fact of life, it was often a danger too, yet its often ignored in Alexander stories. As always, your Hephaestion is sensible and intelligent and loving, while Alexander, even in his invalid state, crackles with restless energy. Hephaestion's attitude to the situation with Philip is so reasonable too - Philip is not the "big bad wolf" but a victim of the plots of others, just like Alexander. A treat as always! Moon x |

| Fredericka 2007-05-23 ch 1, | abuseI agree wholeheartedly with Elizabeth that your words paint a vivid picture - one can almost feel oneself part of the story...the bitter cold, the warm cave, and especially the mouth-watering food!If I were Alexander I'd probably pretend to recover slowly just to savor the marvelous meals. I suspect you are a culinary wizard with an expert knowledge of herbs, spices, etc. As always I love the wise animal friends faithfully offering their warmth and protection for Alexander and his True Steadfast Friend. I suspect the two friends will one day look back on this period as one of the happiest times of their lives. Well done. ** Fredericka ** |
| Lysis 2007-05-23 ch 1, | abuseNorthern Light, what a breath-takingly beautiful story! I just love the way you describe things. I felt like I was there with them, and could see the eyes of the doe as they gazed in adoration upon the buck. I just love your stories they are alwyas so tender and beautiful no matter the subject matter that our two friends have gotten themselves into. Thank you so much for sharing this. It has made my day so much brighter. Elizabeth |
