Fred 2009-07-31 . chapter 31 I, too, have on many occasions been rather confounded on why, for the love of all that is good, anyone would refer to sexual relations in fiction as a "lemon". Allow me to bless you with a number of my theories.
Foremost, the internet "slang" {}, which tends to reference a woman's nethermost not-so-secondary sexual organs, also somewhat resembles a lemon in shape.
As well -- and it is only a passing thought towards explaining this phenomenon -- I have before heard sexual smells described as "tangy", or similar to that of a lemon.
As well, lemons, unlike other fruit, have never, in my lifetime, been compared to sexual behavior, outside of this one reference, and the above comparison involving the symbols {}. This therefore makes it a highly discreet way to refer to such behavior. Oranges are too round, with sometimes pointed ends, for such a purpose, naturally.
Another passing thought -- Lemons can be used in lemonade, which tastes good. I am sure you can attempt to extrapolate from here.
Perhaps there was a strange fanfiction regarding someone with a fetish for lemons? This would naturally cause a large enough controversy to infuse the term with some fame, I would think.
In relation to the above theory, I have also heard reference to the useage of fruit in sexual behavior of the more lonesome variety. May there have been a fanfiction regarding that, and involving a lemon, instead?
Finally, I once came across a website where someone did not know what the word "rape" meant, and had previously always thought it was a fruit. Ever since then, the word "fruit" induced mad giggles amongst the fangirls and -boys who frequented it.
Might there perhaps have been a similarly ridiculous misunderstanding, with something thinking "sex", "intercourse", "cunnilingus", "fellatio", or some other such term, referred to a variety of lemon? There are some awfully odd Latin terms relating to such activities and their related positions, as I am sure you well know, considering your apparent proficiency with the language.
I can only hope that I have perhaps answered as many questions as I have asked. The story is relatively interesting, as always, though there most certainly are some disappointed inconsistencies. I personally do not, however, mind the lack of a "lemon". |
Zoe 2009-07-31 . chapter 1 "Never ever again!" sounds like a young child throwing a hissy fit. xD Your beginning paragraphs always make me laugh, Lol.
One of the issues, of course, with knowing a language, is that others will call upon you to communicate with them. Dreadful, that... Poor Snape. xD I myself actually know some Sign Language, though I suck at it, Lol.
Lovely story so far. No major opinion yet, of course; it could all fly south from here, but I doubt it, considering your later works. |
