abuseLOL that was awesome! I actually didn't know that there was a word such as sapient, and had to look it up before I read the story. -_- Lame, I know. However I think that your right in thinking that Roddenberry started that misuse since that's where I learned the meaning of the word sentient. Haha. I love how there was dead silence on the bridge after Q flashed away. Going to add this to my favourite list!
Cheers!

abuse*Gasp!* Can this be true? *Looks it up.* Why, yes! This is so! I grew up on sci fi, so... yeah... I was one of the mistaken ones. Thank you so much for clearing that up!

abuseI think you mean inaccurate semantics, rather than inaccuate grammer. And after reading that, you'll see why I sympathise with you completely on this issue. But what can you do with popular television?

abuseAs long as we're being picky, isn't using sentient rather than sapient a semantical error, not a grammatical error? The problem is with word choice, not with the syntax of the sentences in which the words are used.

Fun story!

abuseI see what your saying, I never knew that and Q is right in correcting Picard but I bet Gene used the term in the begining because as far as humans are concerned in the future, anything that is sentient should be respected. This was great by the way! I had a good laugh over it. ^_^

abuseThis reminds me of the very frequent use of the word INTERSTELLER by authors. Intersteller is the travel within our own Galaxy, the Milky Way. Most of the the time Fan. refer to this as Intergallactic (which means travel between ourselves and the Andromeda Galaxy some two million lightyears away. Instead they mistakenly refer to this label as travel within our own Galaxy. Like Q's sugestion that Picard correct his grammer, I would suggest that most Startrek Writers should go to their Public Library or the Internet and learn basic scientific terms.
