I thought the prolog was good, and I was excited to see where the story would go. For some reason the title didn't click with me but by chapter one my excitement dissipated. Don't get me wrong, I loved a history of violence and this would have been a great story had the movie never come out. The story is still good, but for those of us who have seen the movie it's too reminiscent of something that's been done before. You write well so all I'm trying to say is that next time maybe let your imagination go and that you don't have to rely too much on an already done story line.

Thanks for writing this. Um... I hope that Jayne/Johnny doesn't love River because she's like Vera, but think that it is kind of sweet that the violent type likes tiny skinny girls who shoot well. I enjoy the story but wish it was in the present rather than a continuous flashback.

While the backstory is written well enough, I would have been happy with 'Jayne's from a mob family, and the evil stepbrother who usurped Jayne's throne is trying to kill him'.

I am absolutely amazed at the level of research you have apparently done for this (and every other) story. Beyond the obvious time you've put into this story, the quality of the writing is phenomenal.
I especially like the direction you took Jayne's past, it makes for a wonderful background.

Saw this on forcast-rayne...really really looking forward to reading more! Exciting tale; dying to know what happened for River and Jayne to end up together on land and where the rest of the crew is. More more more, please!

Yay, you updated! And such a good chapter, too! Course, now I can't wait for the continuation of Jayne's back story and how he gets from well-brought up, connected good boy to Serenity's Jayne that we all known and love. Can't wait for the next part. Great job!
