| BenRG 2008-08-30 ch 27, | abuseI am like this interesting alternate direction you are taking the Tau'ri/Anubis war. I wonder if Carter and Jonas' idea will work. If it does, the boom when the laser discharge hits the gate-killer will be quite spectacular. If it doesn't, will they try the "let's take it out of the atmosphere" idea again? I like how you are characterising Rodney and Jonas. I think you have got both their personalities right. I also approve how you are avoiding making X-Com all uber and better than the SG personel. I think we are very shortly going to see the combat debut of Cassie the Psychic Prime if Anubis comes sniffing around Earth for a direct attack. Overall, a good job. I look forward to more. | Kayleigh-DT 2008-08-29 ch 27, | abuseDamn you, leaving us hanging in both stories now :p What was that quip about the alternate universe about ? I don't remember an alternate universe version where the Asgard revived someone after zat blasts. |
| Cap'n Chryssalid 2008-08-25 ch 26, | abuseYou know, how sad is it that I've been following this work since the preliminary workups on , and I never got around to Faving this here on ffn! As a fellow xcommie and author, I should've been more on the ball here. Well, I'll see to that now. Despite a little roughness about the edges at first, with those tentative if heavy handed crossover steps, this fic soon hits its stride and starts running. Its always a treat when I see the updates sent my way from the forum. Even though you cranking out all the xover goodness reminds me I need to get to the last few chapters of my own epic length XCOM work... -Capn Chryssalid |
| OmniscientQ 2008-08-20 ch 26, anon. | abuseQuite simply, this story is awesome. I've been a fan of X-COM from the start, and still play it regularly (I'm in the middle of a TFTD game right now). I've always thought some X-COM fiction would be great and mixing it with Stargate, in retrospect, makes perfect sense. I hope you continue writing this for many, many more chapters. On SpaceBattles, I saw mention made of twisting the X-COM story line a bit to place T'Leth in the Pegasus galaxy. I think that's just dandy. You've done plenty of twisting to the Stargate timeline with this crossing and I'm not at all adverse to seeing the same happen to the other half. Atlantis vs T'Leth. Puddle Jumpers vs Xarquids. I'm lookin' forward to it. My one wish for this story would be to see more of the sectoid side of things. The story thus far seems to consist mainly of re-writes of the Stargate series. It's easy to understand why: Characters make the story, and Stargate has the characters everyone's already fallen in love with. X-COM has no canonical equivalents (Well, Sharp I suppose, but a passing mention in the game's fluff text isn't quite the same as ten seasons on TV.) Still, I've known X-COM longer than Stargate and I'd love to see how things might be faring over there a bit more. Most updates we get are in briefing rooms, "Foo fighters are making interception impossible for Firestorms" followed by "Yeah, the F-302's are kicking ass so the sectoid war goes good." I don't pretend to know the best way to incorporate more X-COM action, or even if it's in your plan. But it'd be kinda nice for those of us who know more about Floaters and Deep Ones than we do about Ori or Goa'ould. Either way, keep going. This is still a wonderful read as-is. |
| BlueEyedBrigadier 2008-08-18 ch 26, | abuseMighty fine mindfuck you had going there, Hotpoint! Fooled even me and I am usually quite good at sniffing out plot twists ;) |
| Delta Operator 2008-08-17 ch 26, | abuseStill Fn awesome. |
| Gogolu 2008-08-17 ch 26, anon. | abuseThis was one of the best chapters yet. Politics, plotting, sting operation, R&D and action. Pure genius. |
| Robby Cartwright 2008-08-17 ch 26, | abuseGREAT WORK!! Hope you update soon! Will you add another cross or is this only X-com and sg1? |
| humg 2008-08-17 ch 26, | abusegood stuff |
| BenRG 2008-08-17 ch 26, | abuseInteresting chapter. Well up to you usual standard. I found Nirrti's 'co-operation' slightly chilling. I have no doubt whatsoever that, given the slightest opportunity, she will try to sabotage the work she is doing for XSGCOM and run. I also think that Jonas might be in real danger of being used by her for some reason. I wonder, just wonder, if they should consider whether Aikaterina is actually /in love/ with Mayborne. I admit that it seems unlikely but weirder things have happened in the history of the universe. I loved the bit with the Power Armour. The Mk3 sounds like it will be like a walking tank. I'm thinking that armement of a Blaster Launcher and a Gattling Plasma would take it all the way to /being/ a walking tank. That little Jen Hailey was the test pilot was just the icing on the cake. I'm looking forward to seeing the first A-306 Avenger in action. You are right that it is essentially an Earth-designed version of the Al'kesh. Maybe we can also expect to see a next-generation fighter too (perhaps reflecting some of the ideas in X-Com Interceptor) as the F-302X is something of a lash-up. The concluding double-cross was well done and has the advantage of making Anubis blame Apophis for the SNAFU. Mayborne really is a twisted, sneak SOB, isn't he? Finally, it is good to see that Earth and the Tollan are learning to get along nicely. We might be nasty brutes, but we have some redeeming features, our snacks being one of them. However, I'd check those Aschen devices for any sabotage (like encoding nasty retrovirii into the subject's DNA during transit). BenRG's Rating: 7/10 |
| Gogolu 2008-08-06 ch 25, anon. | abuseMaybourne strikes back. Cool. |
| BlueEyedBrigadier 2008-08-06 ch 25, | abuseMakes complete sense that one Belisker-class could get whooped by 2 modified Ha'taks based on your logic. We are talking about a vessel designed by a species whose chief representative (or one of them) showed awe at SG-1's use of projectile weapons to fight the Replicators. Maybe some rail-guns would help out the Asgard, hmm? ;) Brilliant chapter here, Hotpoint! Can't wait to see more as usual. |
