abuseThis story is amazing, and especially amazing is how well you've made the back-story of Noir fit into Evangelion. One could almost say Noir and NGE fit well together on their own without any author intervention...

Scary.

ch 14,
abuseBeen a while since I reviewed the stories in the Eva-section, so I thought I'd take a look and see if you'd updated this one.
Also, I have to admit, that this story is a little more... introspective and thought-provoking. Not really like the others. It was interesting to say the least.

1-I'm still not liking the fact that Rei is the outed-woman in this. (I'm not sure that's accurate, but it seemed rather appropriate I think) She seems to get the short-end up the stick in terms of friendship, skill, knowledge, even luck. It's just my opinion of course.
2-Chloe is a knife expert. I got that much from the previous chapters where she attacked Rei and killed the Section 2 agents at the apartment. And I have to admit that having a force field around would help her better, seeing as how she has to get closer to a person to kill them than using a gun.
3-Chloe also seems to be a tad-bit confused about certain things. Granted that her training as a Soldat agent would have been more focused on actual combat/infiltration/weapons/intel gathering and such, it seems to be only a logical aspect of things, which puts her at a disadvantage creatively.
4-All things considered in Ritsuko's findings, I'm kinda surprised that she hasn't considered that this mysterious AT-Field using assassin isn't a clone like Rei is. But if that were true, then she would suspect that Rei also had the ability to use an Angel's AT-Field at will. And that would be a problem for her as well.
5-You really put alot of thought into Rei's 'background', as her unnusual, emotion-detached upbringing can atest to. It reminded me of more of a science experiment. Which is what Rei might be considered, in some respects.
6-Gendo's meeting with SEELE was as to be expected. They were blaming him for what was going on, his failure to protect the pilots, and their importance to their plans. Gendo doesn't care about them, but he needs the pilots. In fact, SEELE seems to regard them with more importance than Gendo does, or am I reading too much into that?
7-And it seems Gendo is up to his usual tricks and such, thinking how he could use Rei to his own purposes, as an assassin with an AT-Field. Problem is, if Chloe has the same powers, and far better skills, making Rei an assassin is moot. Also, Gendo doesn't know it was Chloe who killed Rei, and using her AT-Field powers too, which puts Gendo at a slight disadvantage and such.
8-Chloe likes to watch movies? Sounds like she and I have something in common. I often watch movies when I write. It helps sometimes. And she's watching Highlander I see. (A little more description on this would have made it clearer, but I got the gist of it.) It would be interesting to see her watch a 'clone' movie, like 'Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones' or 'Multiplicity' or 'Replicant' or even 'Naruto'. (The blonde boy does use that Shadow-Clone thing alot you know)
Hey, maybe you could have Shinji and Chloe watch a movie together?
9-The whole thing with the tennis balls was interesting. Hitting herself with the bouncing balls in order to generate an AT-Field was an interesting way to test her unusual powers. And obviously staying in one place was not an option, so seeing as how she kept moving around made complete sense.
10-Breffort sends Chloe to kill Rei, not knowing that it is doing more damage to Gendo's scenario than anything else. If he truly knew that he was messing with Gendo's and SEELE's plans, I'm pretty sure he would be more than happy.
11-I'm finding it a little difficult to believe that Asuka would not be able to qualify at the range. I mean, she is better trained than Shinji, but is that only in hand-to-hand combat? That seems a little limited, considering that the Eva's also use projectile weapons and such. Still, it's nice to see that Asuka isn't perfect, though I knew that already.
12-When I read the part about Chloe's file, I was kinda shocked to find out that the information was wrong. One would think that an organization that could turn out highly skilled child killers wouldn't have been lax in creating a new file for their agents. At least they could have gotten the parents names right. Doing something like this, there had to be someone in the world that would have known Chloe from before she was snatched. But I guess you can't plan for everything, can you?
13-It would be nice to see Mireille and Kaji actually get together, as they seem to enjoy playing up the whole 'We've got a romance' thing. Right now they seem more professional and such, and that is... well, rather a waste. 'Be professional now and don't worry about the actual relationship that might come about'. Though I think they are trying to keep themselves on target for their goals. Which I still think is a waste, really.
14-And now Mireille is being suspicious as to Rei and her origins, as she looks on at the files concerning the pilots. Not that she was before, but I kinda thought she would have been after the attack. Or has she really been that busy? I also found her thoughts on the Magi to be rather... interesting in that the computer system was more than a computer system.
15-And now, Unit 03 is headed for Tokyo-3. That's going to be a problem later on, I'm sure. If we're keeping up with the fact that the Eva is going to be possessed by the 13th Angel, then Shinji's going to need Kirika's help more than anyone elses.

Oh! Crazy thought popped into my head: have Kirika and Unit 01 defeat the Angel-possessed Eva before Gendo has a chance to activate the dummy plug in order to destroy the 13th.
While this is certainly in keeping with Kirika's skills and her willingness to help and protect Shinji, I 'honestly' can't see you doing this. Logically, it would make more sense to have Gendo activate the dummy plug and use Shinji to destroy the Angel/Eva, thus causing him even more distress, and thus giving Kirika another reason to kill him. Which would also give Mireille an excuse to also kill Gendo, and maybe even Chloe. I can see Mireille actually getting mad at Gendo for forcing someone like Shinji to kill against his will. It's one thing if the person has no choice but to kill, but being forced into it, against his own will, is something that even a professional assassin like Mireille would frown upon. (Or am I reading her wrong?)

Anyway, this is a pretty good chapter. More thought and introspection than the last few chapters, which had a bit more interaction and such.

ch 14,
abusePart of me guesses that Kirika and Mireille killed Chloe's kin. Might as well take a stab at guessing.

Liked seeing Chloe explore her AT abilities. With the documentation Les Soldats is sending her she can probably take her understanding further, and be set on the path that will lead to the truth. The reactions and conclusions of Gendo and Ritsuko to this AT field were also very natural feeling.

I look forward to seeing what will happen when the next Angel attacks, esspecially since I can easily see Kirika being the pilot in the possessed Eva.

abuseGe...Chloe it's going to have one hell of a pain on the ** trying to fulfill her mission, no?

And...This also may cause a problem...As Chloe kills Rei again, given the Noir's new nature as Adam's Daughter...Lilith may start to awake by itself, even with the lance on her...The Children of ADAM, against the Children of Lilith...a part of humanity being embraced by the First Angel...and Mankind fighting against Mankind, as the avatars of Adam and Lilith...

abuseAnd so Chloe is made aware that in Tokyo 3 the dead do not always stay that way. Most of the time they do but an assassin can't really settle for that can they? In fact even if it didn't benefit Soldats to figure out why Rei is alive again I bet Chloe would dig into this purely out of professional pride.

Considering how Shinji is related to Kirika I would wonder if she might try and exploit that to get back in Kirika's good graces. Also it should be fun to see what happens when she finds out the truth about Rei and of her own ressurection.

ch 13, anon.
abuseBeen a while since I review any stories on the Eva list. That's when I wondered if you hadn't updated this.
But seeing as you have...
1-its interesting to see how Mireille and Kirika deal with Chloe, especially after they were the ones who killed her all those months ago.
2-Kirika was a little sharp with Shinji, but given their apparent history (Kirika's and Chloe's) it's understandable. Though I can't seem to understand that kind of a relationship, built on mutual respect and competitiveness.
3-The whole part about a persons fighting styles being as individual as fingerprints. It reminded me of a 'Batman TAS' episode, where Batman fought against Kioda Ken, a ninja from his past who tried to use a technique to kill Batman, who he knew was Bruce Wayne.
4-Not revealing that Chloe is an assassin, since it would compromise them as well, puts Mireille and Kirika at a bit of a disadvantage.
5-Originally I wouldn't have thought that Chloe would be after Rei for any real reason, unless she was under orders. But what would those orders be for? That was really bothering me. Les Soldats wouldn't be after Rei unless it was for a specific purpose. And that purpose could only have been to send Gendo a message and derail his scenario. Which means that they knew about his scenario, and Rei, and the Angels.
6-Which does explain why they cloned Chloe and gave her an AT-Field like Rei's, because in order to assassinate someone like Rei, the assassin would need the same advantage. Since Rei didn't have the skills and training that Chloe did, having an AT-Field would be of use to her.
7-I don't know where Gendo gets his men, but they are obviously from the bargin bin on a clearance sale.
8-The way you describe Rei's building was accurately descriptive to the kind of environment Gendo would want his 'tools' raised in. It's a piece of crap reflection upon their world, with Gendo being the only clean, modern environment they have to look forward to.
9-Chloe's observation of the apartment building does bring alot of questions to light, as to how a nearly new city could fall into such disrepair in a short time. (Yours words, right?) I especially liked the part about Rei living in a slum inside a warzone. That was particularly descriptive.
10-I found it interesting that Chloe thought Rei looked like Kirika, if only for a second. It makes you wonder if she hasn't guessed the reason yet.
11-And now the reason Chloe has an AT-Field comes into play. It does make sense that she would have one, to specifically kill Rei. Even with greater skills and training, even if she were stronger, faster, more agile, she wouldn't be able to kill Rei if Rei was the only one with an AT-Field.
12-And Rei didn't seem to wonder why the new transfer student was in her apartment, or how she got past her security guards. (Getting into the apartment isn't difficult though)
13-And once again, Section 2 go the way of the Imperial Storm Troopers and the red shirt guys from Star Trek, getting killed by Chloe who only used knives against nearly a dozen men armed with semi-autos.
14-Boy, Ritsuko sure has her work cut out for her. Activating a new clone so early would make some people nervous.
15-A security meeting, now there's something that's overdue. Better to get it late than never.
16-I kinda like the translation that Mireille gave for the note Chloe left. Cryptic and creepy.
17-And now Gendo's getting nervous as to why Rei has died twice. But what's really upsetting to his plans is that Rei4 is two months behind everyone as well as her inability to synch with Eva 01. That, and Adam missing, has got to be driving Gendo crazy. Which I like.
18-It's amazing to me that Chloe never considered the possibility that the Rei that walked into class might be a clone. Then again, while I'm sure that Les Soldats knows about this, it's not something that they'd pass along to their assassins. Need-to-know and all that.
19-I really loved the part where Kirika threatens to kill Chloe as many times as necessary if she even tried to hurt Shinji. That kind of loyalty is exactly what Shinji needs.
Hey! A thought just popped into my mind. Why not have Chloe do something that would be totally unexpected for someone like her? Why not have Chloe ask Kirika why she is protective of Shinji? If you put that into a scene where Kirika explains what she knows, about Shinji being Kirika's brother, and how Gendo sent her off to Les Soldats and how Shinji risked his life to save her, then it's possible you might get Chloe on Shinji's side as well.
20-And it's kinda sad that Chloe missed the last part of what Kirika said to her. That, combined with seeing Rei walk into class after killing her, would have made Chloe suspicious enough to theorize that an organization like NERV would have the brains and resources to clone people. That alone could put her on a more interesting investigative path. Like say... to find the Reiquarium?
21-I wonder... if Rei loses more memories of her life, will she eventually becomes someone that the group will actually like? I mean, if she's two months behind everyone else, and unable to synch with Eva 01, Gendo's not going to have much use for her. And if he rejects her, it's 'possible' that Shinji and the others might take her in.
Seriously, she's really been getting the shaft in this story. Killed twice, no real identity, a dwinding purpose, no friends, etc. It's real sad. Maybe being moved into the same apartment as the other pilots will help open her up. Then again, if Gendo rejects her outright, it could be the start of a new friendship for her.

Anyway, great update. Things are starting to shape up nicely.
