Definitely a story line that could be developed, but the ending is so good. I really like this different relationship with Joel and Marilyn.

Well, I'll tell you right now, I am a Native American, a HUGE Northern Exposure fan (even made a pilgrimage to Roslyn while the show was still filming there) and I felt this story's romance between Joel and Marilyn fit like a hand in a well-broken-in glove. I loved it. You had me crying by the end of the story. Ever since Joel went to follow Marilyn on her vacation in the city I felt there was something potentially MORE to their relationship.
So don't let the canon nitpickers get you down, this was a wonderful story!
