Adi88 2007-07-18 ch 1,	abuseOkay, right off I have to bring up the associations of lurve: Hiei to Yuusuke on why he saved him from the Sniper Truck Death: “I was worried about the trees.” And then Sensui when Hiei, Kurama, and Kuwabara are preparing to kick his ass from one side of Demon World to the other, ‘Oh let’s do it over there so we don’t ruin the lovely trees.’ So, yes. Completely irrelevant, yet fun. “Yukina’s been worried.” - Sn. Sn. Sn. Right offa the bat, Yukina gets the emotional burden of this talk. She shall shoulder all of her own and Hiei’s as well… but then those little shoulders can take plenty. “I wonder why.” - Because it’s such a ‘oh, so we’re going to play it THAT way, are we’ moment. “She says you’ve been out here every day this week.” - Not that he’d know. “Another stray breeze, and his hair shifted alternately from brilliant to dark under the molted shadows as Hiei watched.” - Mm… and then the eyes, and the hand. Just good. “Tell Yukina I’ll drop in later.” - Yukina, bridge between repressive demons… “Kurama’s expression promised that he was reading every scrap of subtext he could from that statement…” - Mnah, love. Because that’s what Kurama does regularly, one the one hand, and on the other, if he’s Doing It Up Proper then he wants there to be something there to examine. Sn. Sn. Sn. “At least, Hiei thought, the fox had gotten some endurance training standing there uselessly each day.” - Kikiki. Practical Hiei. “Does it hurt every time we extinguish a match or blow out a candle? Does Yukina hurt every time an ice cube melts?” - Because it’s silly and perspective-making and stuff. And of course, not an answer, though the fact that he’s here rather is. “…and it annoyed him that Kurama didn’t bother to fake his normal attitude.” - The entire list, actually, but I’m lifting this because it’s my favorite of the ‘annoyed’s. Hiei doesn’t have time for that namby-pamby ‘oh we’re friends show me your true emotions’ thing. There are some things Kurama fakes, and if he’s going to fake them he should keep it up, damnit, and not call all this attention to himself by being lazy. That’s actually a rather depressing thought process… still, Hiei will be Hiei. And guise will be guise, as Jane Espenson [I think…] would say. “They’re just clearing the way for new growth, even if it is of a different kind.” - Because I live with Mimi, and so the idea that some building is ‘growth’ was like ‘…WTF?’ But correct, strictly speaking. “I’ve destroyed more precious things.” - Special meaning right after that whole Amanuma arc… “And just because I prefer undisturbed forest to metal and glass structures doesn’t give me the right to call this the wrong kind of growth. You have to wait to see the end product before you can judge if the new shoots grew in the right direction. All change is like that.” - Because the end is lovely and philosophical, and the beginning is the non-stance that is my favorite. “Not with someone here being so very determined to make her happy. Almost like a brother…” “Idiot.” - La, they’re so sweet… Pooly for not getting them back and having a scene with Yukina in, but there - it was lovely and meaningful and I shall treasure it.

Aww, Hiei's being so caring, in his own curious way, and he still doesn't get out of it cleanly without getting ripped upon. We wonder where his antisocial tendencies come from. :) "Just like a brother..." I love you, absolutely love you. This was so very fun. And...there is so much lovely about this entire thing, but I'm afraid it's rather lost in little squeals of glee at the moment...and in the pretty pretty imagery you slipped in through the entire fic.
