I love that line.

He was so scared - and he's barely lived a quarter of the years he should have.

But at least he wasn't alone -- literally millions of us were there with him -- and we'll make sure he gets taken care of well from now on. ;-)

That's beautiful. Let's hope he had many moment when he felt less alone than at the end of his life.

Yes! To me, she has given up her right to this character by treating him so shabbily and making him so alone. I'm preparing a new universe just for him (ok, I'm going to torture him too, but at least he's going to be the hero...).

We all were prepared at his death but not in this way.
Eeven if in our hearts we hoped that she found a way to gain for herself immortality, writing a touching AND happy end. Instead she chose to be conventional and conformist and she decided to write following the usual rules: a painful and (for us) unforgettable death for the sinner and the hero going alone to defeat the enemy. She chose the easy way against what is right.
I am really grateful that you give him that love that she never meant to dedicate, denying even the dignity of a public acknowledgement.
In your last fic you quoted a sentence of S. King referring to the life of characters beyond the end of the book. Even if he is dead, Severus Snape will survive in our hearts forever, on the contrary of the characters still alive.
