Heartbreaking, really. But the way you describe the subtle bond between Byakuya and Rukia is well done for a short. It's sort of hard for people to describe their relationship, since it's complex (but, IMHO, not romantic), but this works very nicely.

I also could certainly see Rukia as being haunted after Huecho Mundo, so yup.
