I heard on Wikipedia that the Mokomoko-sama was a kind of fur to show superior rank. Sesshoumaru's mother also has one, I believe. Some people think it's his tail, but I disagree. It is in no way attatched to his butt, and in the episode called True Owner of the Great Sword, he clearly takes it off his shouder and uses at as a pillow of sorts.
