A great story. Very good.

I get the feeling from this piece that Vader somehow /knew/ that he would not survive Endor, which is a thought I like quite a bit. While it is never stated, I wonder if Vader simply needed human companionship that night, even if it was only an awkward impromptu meeting with his second-in-command. Again, though it is never stated, one is left with the impression that he is a being with the combined weight of the galaxy and an awful destiny on his shoulders. As for Piett...he is exactly how I imagine him outside of his brief appearances in the films, someone who probably knows Vader better than anyone save the Emperor at this point.

You've done a marvelous job with this piece, leaving the reader with a wistful, aching feeling, being left to only imagine what could have been.

I liked that very much. It was well written and very telling of the future, that Vader somehow is aware of his fate, and the fate of the Empire. x

I love it! Piett's one of my favorite Imperials, and I really like the way you've portrayed him here. :D

A very good job! I commend you for not only for using a character who is woefully underwritten in SWs but for also creating such a thoughtful piece from the viewpoint of the Imperials.

Ooh, very cool! I liked the last part, with Vader's words making Piett nervous. Kudos!

Piett always struck me as a very observant person, always seeking to learn from other's mistakes. I liked the interaction between him and Vader in this story, that he noticed several things about the Dark Lord. He even seemed to catch on to the fact that Vader, while outwardly supporting the emperor, didn't always agree with him, and that there was something different about his obsessive search for Luke.

You also set the scene quite beautifully. The calmness of night, especially when thinking about the ensuing events.

Vader was right about a changed world, wasn't he?
