I thought every entry was spot on -- not whitewashing Snape, but never losing sight of the suffering person he was and the loving heart he carried even in the days when he gave in to his own darkest impulses. duj 2007-08-15 ch 1,	abuseGood work. I don't think you've noticed, though, that Snape is a very gentle man, despite his sarcasm. He seems not to have directly killed anyone but Dumbledore - at once a mercy-killing and a forced-move in a war - and we see in HBP how he treats a mortal enemy: Peter, who not only helped bully him all through school but who also betrayed his one love. Lots of carping and bossing around, but nothing anywhere near commensurate with the wrongs Peter had done him.
