wow, this is really good. i picked up the reference to Messenger as well, with Ron and Draco at the Lake, and i liked the ending to this and the development of the relationship between draco and hermione. well done.

absolutely fantastic. fanfreakingtastic. the chess analogy is really overdone - but this one with checkers is new, and interesting, and you pulled it off effortlessly. plus the whole smoke/fire red/black gryffindor/slytherin thing - completely understated and yet perfect. not to mention catherine and heathcliff - lovely touch. simply wonderful!

I positively ADORE this one-shot. Draco and Hermione’s relationship is tangible and it had a dynamic to it that I’ve never seen before. There’s a lot of depth to these characters revealed in such a short story and that’s wonderful. I LOVE Hermione’s characterization. Regarding the end, it’s fitting, but at the same time I want definite answers that Hermione dumps Ron and admits her love for Draco. OOC I know, but I can’t help it. Still, I wouldn't change the ending at all. Also, were the checker games symbolic in any manner? Anyway, excellent one-shot, hope to see more.

Wonderful job. I loved this story. The concept of how Hermione can't allow herself to be with him because she cares too much was brilliant, and the context of the checker games as well as your introduction to them was very well done. =)
