This is a great story to hold in counterpoint to “Terminus,” your earlier Vincent Valentine fic. Both are similarly loaded with descriptive details, but this is a far stronger story. It’s not because much more happens, although in this story the action is a lot more coherent. It’s not even because of the level of restraint, because this story is not particularly restrained when it comes to imagery.

No, the added strength occurs in the characterizations. Dreadmoon is a character I am still getting to know, but here I get a sense that he is a dreamy romantic with an incredibly ruthless side (“unbroken darkness breaks minds” being his signature line for this fic). Starscream is of course a character I know far more intimately, and you do a wonderful job showing his sensuality and his irritably critical nature. When he says “tell me this monstrosity has some military application,” you completely nail it, and him: that is something he would totally say.

And then at the end, when Starscream laughs “bright and bold and unafraid,” the story sings. The bringing together of these two lovers under an unfolding darkness made just for them is absolutely perfect. It is poetic and epic and yet grounded in the reality of these two personalities. Very strong work.

I've been on a TF kick ever since I saw the new movie, and I figured, "Hey! Let's see what kind of fanfiction Transfandom holds!" Truth be told, I wasn't quite knowledgeable about G1 characters except for the '86 movie. So when I first heard of Dreadmoon, I thought he was another canon character whom I had forgotten over the years. And then I realized that he's very much a fan character, but one of, if not the, best fan character I've seen in all fandoms I frequent. Not just in this little vingette, but in everything else from Wayward and you and whatnot. So I just want to say that he's really great and I love him for that. I can even hear his voice when I read his dialogue, something that I don't get to hear often with fancharacters or fanfiction in general.

Anyway, the imagery in this is beautiful. You have such a wonderful way with words, and they paint beautiful pictures in my head. Very pretty.
