cupid-painted-blind 2008-05-25 . chapter 7This deserves more than 17 reviews. Far more. But alas! No one seems to care for the minor characters.
I have to say, this - along with all of your other work - is an engrossing read. The clock says 12:16 AM right now, and I can't for the life of me remember where the past hour and half have vanished off to, except that I've been reading about Charlie Weasley and Penelope Clearwater and Viktor Krum all over your profile, and loving every last second of it.
I love the way you flesh out the minor characters without turning them into Mary Sues or making them far more important than they were in canon, and in this story in particular, I love how Samantha feels and thinks and acts.
I also adore the way you've portrayed Percy - it's very realistic with canon - he's not desperate to get back home and his progression feels natural. It's easy to see his acts here gradually develop into how he is in Deathly Hallows, joining the fray at last.
I'd love to see Percy's side of this, just because he's such a fascinating character, and so much more than he seems at first glance (and because there are few authors who can pull off such a character so well, but I think I've said enough that you are more than amazing at such a feat). But even so.
Ordinarily, I'm not interested in the minor characters, at least, not to this extent. I could have easily kept reading about Samantha for another hundred chapters, honestly. But I'm getting long and I don't think I'm saying anything new anymore, so, to close:
You're a fantastic author who is in desperate need of more love. This story, along with all the others I've read so far, is just proof of your abilities. |
 A. Meril 2008-03-24 . chapter 7Excellent, excellent!
I finished reading the good majority of your stories a few days ago, and they're all extremely enjoyable! :) The relationship between Penelope and Samantha is wonderful, and I loved seeing how Samantha grows up and how she tries to learn as much about magic as she could, even though it will never work for her.
You've done a super job of carrying the tension of the wizarding world over into the Muggle one, which turns out to be even scarier because Samantha can't fully understand what's going on. Even more unsettling was how completely Penelope vanishes, both from the wizarding world and in the story itself: it made me feel upset and worried right alongside Samantha.
I'm a total sucker for great OCs, and I've fallen in love with your vision of the Clearwaters. No wonder Penelope is a Ravenclaw, with a family like that! |
 Lala1 2008-02-08 . chapter 7This story is great! Please keep writing. |
sprstarinfrance 2007-10-31 . chapter 7I secretely wanted her to end up with Percy even though I know that wasn't the point of the story. =]
I loved this especially because it's a point of view you don't expect. |
rumor and sigh 2007-09-21 . chapter 7I really liked this story, Crookshanks. I sense you have done some research into various "resistance" movements, and what it was/is like for families of people who have gone underground. I hope there are more chapters to come; I'd like to see how it ends up for Penelope and Samantha.
Maybe after it's all over, Penelope can introduce Samantha to Terry Boot? After reading "Solo", I fell in love with old Terry, and think he and Samantha could make a go of it, as long as she doesn't mind his frequent trips to whatever parts of the Third World need him.
Again, thank you so much for your wonderful work. |
Possum132 2007-09-06 . chapter 7Nice threading of canon references through this chapter.
Surely there must be more! You can't leave the story dangling like this. |
Meggily 2007-09-05 . chapter 7This is such an amazing perspective.
Its really one of a kind; Ive never read anything like it.
You are a fabulous writer as well!
Please update again soon! :-D |
Rowena Marion 2007-09-05 . chapter 1I waited to review until the entire story was up, but I must tell you that I'm really impressed with it. Though I don't envision Penny quite the same way you did, I love what you did with her family and with the accessory characters. You really have a talent for details. I felt like the story could easily have been a cannon part of Rowling's Universe. |
Nyeren 2007-09-04 . chapter 7Really wonderful. I'm sorry that I've not kept up with feedback as I ought; schoolwork has a nasty way of devouring all my free time with merciless jaws. I loved your characterizations very much indeed. Samantha was well thought-out and extremely convincing, and Percy was, well, Percy-ish with lovely glimmers of reform. Amazing job taking on a subject rather obscurely treated in canon...I'm always excited to read your stories. |
Leigh1986 2007-09-03 . chapter 6Great story so far! I'm really enjoying it. Percy seems very in character- and I love how you give his actions deeper meaning (rather then just passing him off as the family git)- his concern for Penny (and her family) is very sweet!
Update soon!
P.S. Your last chapter made me really miss Oxford. Cornmarket...Blackwells...*sigh* |
Possum132 2007-09-02 . chapter 6It is all so devilishly complicated. You do such a good job of depicting Wizard/Muggle relations - in colour and 3D. |
Possum132 2007-08-31 . chapter 5Samantha is having gruesome time. Well imagined and well told story of how the persecution of the Muggle-borns affects the Muggle family. |
 Possum132 2007-08-29 . chapter 4I do like what you're doing with Percy. For a born rule-follower and beaurocratic ladder-climber, he's a good bloke. |
Possum132 2007-08-27 . chapter 3I'm so pleased to see Percy again. Lovely chapter. |
Meggily 2007-08-25 . chapter 2This is really amazing.
Its such a new and fresh perspective, and its interesting to read.
You've made a wonderful fic out of some tiny details, and that is real talent.
Please update again soon; You're fabulous! :-D |
