Wow, been there and done that actually. Made me feel really sad but in a good way. It's that point when you realize everything's precious. Nobody writes those unless the character is about to die or maybe after they just finished having sex (then it's usually brief and just for closing purposes. ARGH!) So thank you for writing a contemplative moment without impending character death or sex (although sex could have transpired at "Only one more hour..."^_^) I enjoyed the bit about his family and Sunday dinners. That was very...precious.

Genma is sex personified but Raidou... he's the gentle giant making his way through life trying to hold true to his ideals, living by other's rules in order to make them happy.

This piece made me want to go back and check a few of your past stories in this universe. It's quite touching when compared to the second and third chapters of Tolerant Intolerance. I remember that the first time I read those chapters, I'd almost cried and the sheer 'bearishness' of Raidou- warming him and embracing him outdoors and then comforting his waking boyfriend who had burrowed under the covers. And then, of course, the infamous chapter 9 of AtW, with Raidou's protectiveness and vindictiveness faced with Iruka's pain and the memory of Genma's suffering.

Those pieces are subtly brought back to mind while reading this story; the remembrance of those who are gone and the emotions his friends and family have struggled through. Now, you'll have to forgive me for being the endless romantic, but how could I fail to gush over the physical reminders of his relationship to Genma?
1/ Genma's arm holding him to the bed. (right, he'd be a first to want to get up and leave such a hunk in bed) It's a delightful counter point to Raidou's usual cuddling and comforting and, in particular, of Raidou's submission while Genma broke. There, it wasn't so much Genma's pinning Raidou down as Raidou knowing that Genma needed him there and in that way and being unable and unwilling to leave him to that. The sentence is nicely done as well; a further attenuation of the stronger 'holding' with the 'gentle' and 'sweeping' actions... once more reinforcing that the only thing really 'holding' him down is his love for Genma. How could I not just sigh dramatically at that?
2/ Genma sighing and snuggling in his sleep. Just aw... Well, Raidou's said before that Genma is a cuddle **. I guess this is one of those moments Kakashi rarely gets to see where Genma gets to subconsciously show Raidou how much he loves him- with no suggestive comments or lewd looks involved.

I am kinda wondering just how big Raidou is. After all, in the anime, Genma and Raidou appeared to be somewhat the same size, though Raidou might be a bit broader in the chest. And Genma's definitely not slight (as seen as he faces off against Baki). Despite that though, it is a precious thought to have Genma cuddle into his lover's embrace. Happy birthday to Raidou indeed- and it's your readers who get the gifts! Yay!!

You really did go all out with the little descriptions and details, I absolutely love that (especially the first paragraph)! You know I actually saw a review criticizing an author for that, it's beyond me how you can't at least appreciate someone's creativity. Sorry started to get off on a bit of a tangent, as for this story though it was perfectly sweet and fluffy for Raidou's birthday! :)

The more I read about Raidou, the more I seem to love him, especially with characterizations like yours. Sweet, with just a hint of bittersweet... but by his age birthdays and other important anniversaries probably have both those feelings anyway. (quietly pokes Genma. Wake up and give Rai a good smexin for his birthday, evil grin) Thanks for sharing more of two of my favorite sexy shinobi :)

One part that was a bit strange for me was "into the big man's embrace." It makes me think of... a giant. Or maybe Asuma. XD
