 Marcus S. Lazarus 2009-03-22 . chapter 13Hoo boy…
VERY interesting bit of work.
I’m generally ambivalent about Doctor/companion relationships in THIS sense of word in the Classic series- the Doctor was really more of a father figure for most of them back then, particularly when looking at his relationships with Victoria, Jo, Nyssa and Ace-, but given Ace’s greater age HERE compared to her age in the show it made a certain sense that her feelings for the Doctor would have developed and changed beyond that point.
Plus, of course, the whole concept of those ‘infovores’ was a VERY nice touch; an intriguing monster in the form of the Shadowmen combines with a highly interesting motivation and background, coming together to pit the Doctor and Ace up against a threat that challenges the very nature of the reality they live in...
Given that their relationship’s going through some not-insignificant changes on its OWN at this point, it’s somehow appropriate that they should now found themselves facing a threat that defies conventional understanding almost as much as their new dynamic defies their ability to understand themselves (Particularly in the Doctor’s case; he might be the most human Time Lord of them all, but even HE isn’t sure how to cope with what he’s feeling here).
And as for the conclusion…
Powerful stuff, to say the least; in the end, the only way to save the day is (Apparently) to hurt a civilisation whose only real ‘crime’ is being curious (Albeit being simultaneously incapable of processing our view of the universe).
Keep up the good work! |
beautifulside 2008-08-19 . chapter 13This is absolutely brilliant. Wonderfully constructed plot- complete with unexpected twists- and lovely, subtle explorations of their relationship. |
dixielou 2008-06-17 . chapter 13 Loved this! There's not enough 7/ace out there. Thank you for writing it! |
Roxanne Morinaka 2007-09-20 . chapter 13I love the way that there is always a Dr Who caliber plot mixed in with the emotion of the piece.
I think you are an amazing writer. |
Flavia's Mirror 2007-09-10 . chapter 13 You know. I would normally have skived out and run from this ship. But I really, really liked this. The way you handled it is masterful. I think Ace's growing character was set brilliantly. And your insight into the endless mind went well, too. Then, the explosion of the collision... *grin*
Thanks for a good story. Thanks a lot. |
Spiritquest 2007-09-06 . chapter 9Oh, my gosh! I think I love you! *thud* I really can see all this in my mind. still love the characterizations. Poor Ace, can handle the threat of death, the thought of blowing herself up, cans of nitro nine, but loses it when cornered with her "inconvenient emotions" by the Doctor. Love this story and can't wait for the next chapter. Please? *grin* I feel bad for her thinking that the Docter wants to protect her because she has failed him somehow. But I can she how she would draw that conclusion. *sigh* Of course now I'm thinking poor Doctor. How in the heck is he going to react to this? Saved by the bell perhaps? LOL |
Spiritquest 2007-09-05 . chapter 7This story is awesome. I haven't seen many stories with Ace and this Doctor, but to be honest, I tend to stick to Rose and 9/10. LOL You had me from the first chapter. I loved the gown Ace got to wear all the way back at the beginning. :) And I can totally see her being willing to blow herself up to save the Doctor. I love your detail and how we get to see the inner workings of their minds. And how different their inner workings are. LOL Good characterization. I hope that Ace is in for a surprise and her feelings won't be the horrible revelation she suspects. I'm kinda guessing from this last chapter that maybe the Doctor might have similar feelings for her if he can just put a name to what he is feeling. Once he realizes that he IS feeling. LOL You have even caused me to go back and find episodes with Ace. Thanks for writing and I can't wait till the next chapter! |
