lembas7 2007-09-17 . chapter 1I really liked this, but I was confused by the discontinuity. The beginning segment: "Victor had never put stock in what he’d been told about these two. He’d always been convinced that Dean was the threat. Sam was the reluctant criminal, dragged into this life by a father and brother who manipulated him for their own purposes. Every report, every shred of evidence—real evidence, anyway, not the hunter-blather he’d been forced to listen to—indicated that Dean was the instigator, the mastermind, and Sam was just a good kid with an overblown sense of loyalty who kept getting sucked into his brother’s schemes. Sam was going to be the one who eventually saw the light and helped him put Dean on death row where he belonged."
(long, I know, sorry) - this bit doesn't seem to jive with this: "“Fucking idiots,” he muttered, and jerked his cell phone out of his pocket and punched in a number. Every hunter in the world knew not to kill Dean Winchester and not to let him die. Beat him up, maybe. Make his life even more miserable, definitely. But never, ever, under any circumstances, kill him. Not unless you took care of Sam first."
Also, I'm a bit confused about Henrickson here. He goes from not believing the hunters at all and acting like they're just wackos at the beginning, to absolute belief of what's going on in the above segment, with Sam being dangerous and John binding Dean to him - which should fall under all that 'blather' he didn't believe in. It just seems like an extremely abrupt character turnabout for him that I can't reconcile with what we know of him as it stands. Also, the discontinuity between his stated desire to put Dean on Death Row, and the fervent need to not have Dean killed. I think I may be missing something. Is he trying to pin this death on the hunters, and then telling himself it couldn't be them because they knew not to kill Dean? That's - me making a big reach, because it's not very clear. But overall, I can't figure out who or what Henrickson is, exactly - not a hunter, but not a regular guy, either, not a demon - so if that was your goal, good job! :)
I liked this fic a lot - short, sweet, and though it confused me it got me thinking. |
 Ster1 2007-09-15 . chapter 1Wow.
This is some powerful stuff. Interesting idea, that Victor secretly knew about hunting and Sam. And yet, he was so wrong about everything and it ended in such tragedy. Oh, Dean. Oh, Sam. Sigh...
Is this part of a series or a oneshot? Either way, it works really well. (I was just wondering, out of curiosity.) |
