It's funny, you wrote about Harry's birthday only a few days after my own birthday (it was on the twenty-eighth), but I still don't get to live with Sirius. :( I really love how Sirius counted down to midnight, I remember doing that on some of my other birthdays, there wasn't anyone to do it with me, though. I've probably mentioned it a million times before but Sirius is such a good (god)father. :) Oh, and I loved this line: "It made them [chocolates] taste like dust and old ice cubes." "Opposed to brand new ice cubes?" Burst out laughing That just sounds like something my own dad would say to me or my siblings. Oh Sirius, Sirius, how I love you. By the way, was it Ron who gave Harry the Chocolate Frogs and the Weasleys gave Harry the World Cup tickets? I wasn't sure about that, but I figured since Pig came and delivered that Ron was in there somewhere. Are we going to see Hermione on Harry's birthday as well? It was really great that you were able to incorporate Pig into the story and explain why he was there (Sirius had to use him to tell Harry he was cleared and had guardianship over Harry). Some authors just throw Pig in there (when Sirius has been freed) and don't really explain how. Yay, they're going to the World Cup! I hope the same thing happens that happened in the book (the Death Eaters, the Dark Mark, etc.) but it will be better because Harry has Sirius to help him deal with it. He already knows about Death Eaters because of Regulus but this may show him just how many are alive and well. Poor Harry and poor Sirius who just told him they were safe... Ah, well, you'll write it amazingly no matter what, Jade! Anyway, I have to go do some neglected homework now (I started school yesterday and the professors are already piling it on!). I hope your work isn't getting you down too bad, but at least you're teaching English (?) instead of being taught about it (some of which is a rehash from highschool, lol). Angels Broken Shadow 2008-09-02 ch 32,	abuseNEW CHAPTER! NEW CHAPTER! And I got all my courses in sixth form, so I'm already having a good time! This was a lovely chapter to read after such a long break! I was going to go on a tirade about making us wait so long, but after such a wonderful chapter, I've decided to let you off. Is magnanimous Oh, but it was SWEET. I like all this godfather/godson interaction. Sighs happily "Tingling all over, Harry held his breath. A lonely cricket chirped from the branches of the tree outside his window. 'You counted down for that?'" I like that line! It's...well. Funny. Life is so often anti-climactic. I liked the way Sirius kept repeated "Fourteen" with a sort of longing, like it had really hit him how much of Harry's life he'd missed. I admire the way you can convey these things through character's words and actions without having to come out and just say it. It's clever. More! Not another long wait!! Please!! I start sixth form on Monday, I want another chapter that week!!
2693 2008-09-02 ch 32, anon.	abuseI loved the mini-celebration in his room. The only part I didn't like was the beginning with Regulas eyelashes or whatever. No one writes that in a diary. Unless this was a strange flash back type thing for Regulas - which wouldn't make sense either...

I dunno, but you always seem to manage to make him sound like a NORMAL, actually British, young Brit. -ish kid. Teenager. Wow, I'm really not making any sense. Suffice to say, I love your story. I'm actually glad the kids are going back to school tomorrow. We can get back to some sort of a routine, I hope. Loved the chapter. Sometimes it seems that Harry is the more adult one of the two, but Sirius always seems to come through at the right time. I'm thinking that Harry is going to have a great b-day. Can't wait for the Quidditch World Cup. I'm sure that will be an interesting trip. Thanks again for the update. Have fun in school and hope to hear more from you soon. Take care...
Fawkes Song 2008-09-01 ch 32,	abuseThe barmy flitter--I loved it. This was one of those heartwarming chapters that you do so well. Sirius is so good for Harry. I loved the way he made Harry give him all the chocolate frogs to put away and kept him from leaping at the window, but at the same time made the birthday countdown so light and jovial and fun. So different from Harry's past birthdays. I look forward to more birthday fun. I hope you can write more. I sure do miss it!

Emma Beckham 2008-08-31 ch 32,	abuseJade, I'm glad you are finding time to write with school in session. I'm sure that's no easy feat. As I was rereading this story, something occurred to me: Sirius is a gifted parent because he ENJOYS Harry. For Sirius, parenting isn't mostly criticism and correction, but more observational and conversational. Of the few gifted parents I know personally, that's a common trait--their enjoyment of their kids. On another note, when I read fiction (mostly novels), one of my litmus tests for determining its importance is whether the work extends my thinking about a particular topic. Your writing is the first fanfiction that has caused me to have an epiphany as I read. To me, that is a sign of exceptional writing!

I love the way you incorporate his physical actions - he could be any one of my boys at that age. Wouldn't we all like to have a Sirius in our lives that tries so hard and is so genuine as the one you have created for us. Go Jade! I'm glad teaching is going well and you're finding time to write. This was a great chapter. Harry and Sirius have such great interaction and dialogue. I've missed reading your writing.
