He hits him once in the book and feels horrible about it, and all of a sudden that makes him some crazy child-abusing bastard? What? And where's Soda during all this? I doubt he'd be sitting there twiddling his thumbs while Darry goes all kung fu on Ponyboy's **. |
| Hahukum Konn 2007-12-27 ch 1, | abuseCurtis sister fic in which the sister has a weird name? Check. Poorly done? Check. Note the excessive angst and such. Abusive Darry and Sodapop to generate sympathy for the OC? Check. Johnny's parents abusing him gains them a lot more latitude than Darry's actions might, since the state authorities were not observing Johnny on a regular basis, and in the 1950s and 1960s, parents got a helluva lot of leeway on discipline because people usually figured parents had the right to do as they saw fit when it came to punishment. An even halfway-dumb social worker, with the amount of butt-tanning Ponyboy got, would notice he had trouble sitting down and would start questioning Darry rather pointedly about it - there's really only one explanation for why Ponyboy wouldn't feel comfy sitting down that isn't indicative of abuse, and even cursory questioning by the authorities of the track coach would verify if the injuries were sustained during practice. And as for Dani, even the slightest hint that she was being hit by her brothers would likely scandalize the social worker even more than if Ponyboy were hit. If I were you I'd chop this fic. |
