Beautiful writing! I loved Hiko's "ridiculous thought that the boy had grown very quickly indeed." Ridiculous thoughts are exactly how people react to unbelievable situations, right before logic kicks in. How on earth does Hiko discern ten minutes from thirty minutes just by checking the sun?! It must be another one of those inexplicable samurai things.
