This is really very cute and very sweet and I love that it's bothering Joker... of course it would... very naturally... he just wouldn't be able to figure it.
Though I do think it's a little bit of all four reasons that are stated within the piece... even if he can't admit it. :)

That was...actually...kinda cute.

I always feel mildly disturbed when in-character Joker stories make me smile and say "aw."

Random trivia: the song Harley sings in the episode...Harlequinade, I think...was originally sung by Lucille Ball in the screwball comedy "Meet the People."

I never knew that our romance was over
Until you poisoned my food
And I thought it was a lark
When you kicked me in the park
But now I think it was rude...

Holy-moley, you're right! And I don't just mean about sitcoms being crap nowadays...
There being some kind of joke involved with his Harley-induced frustrations *would* keep Joker from offing the woman when she became most annoying. Heck, we've all seen the man would *die* for a joke; what'd stop him from torturing (for lack of a better word) himself for one, too? Hm, most intriguing!
Also, just for the record, I very much enjoy how perfectly the actions of the characters blend with their dialogue; it all seems very natural -- in as much as those two can be, that is.
