| Lalaith Yamainu 2008-07-25 ch 8, | abuse*happy sighs* I love everything coming together so neatly. Still problems, yes, but what family doesn't have them? I must say, I adore your stories - every one. |
| Phoenixfire979 2008-07-10 ch 8, | abusebrilliant story, update soon! |
| iscariot 2008-07-06 ch 8, | abuseWell, here we are... :) What i actually wanted to do was send you a private note - but, apparently, you have that disabled. Oh well. I started, about a week ago, reading your Hermione/ Snape fic - I don't know why as, normally, I hate such, as they wallow (gleefully) in turgid sentiment, grotesquely tumescent purple prose and banal characterisation - and I use that word in its widest possible interpretation - of the worst sort. However, while I won't say your fic was a revelation (in the sense of burning bushes and the parting of coloured seas), it was elegantly written and possessed of a clean, crisp narrative flow that allowed one to actually read - and become immersed in -the story, the situations and the characters. Also, considering the wider topic of the story, I find it even mroe meritorious, that you didn't descend into mawkishness, grandiose banner-waving or aggravating sterotyping. Perhaps, most notably, the dramatis personae remained just that, personae; god save us from fan-fiction writers who take characer and turn them into something unrecognisable as people (Playing upon their pecadillos and exaggerating various traits I can handle, otherwise I wouldn't be able to read my own writing *grin* but removing their humanity is something else entirely). Verily, after finishing with the Potterverse, I wandered into the authors section to see if you'd written anything else...oh Firefly. I like Firefly. If anything, I like the cleanliness of your narrative lines even more in this context than I did previously; the Pottervirse, for all its magic and vast array of characters, is a pretty black and white and, dare I say it, a two-dimensional world, Firefly is something else again, where gray is not so much a descriptive colour as a way of life. I like that you've utilised the original arc (of Firefly through to BDM) as a backbone, without compromising either the series, or your own vision; it gets hard to read story after story where the only thing you could say is that 'only the names have been changed to protect the innocent'. That you are now, moving forward, writing your own vision is pleasing and, moreover, consistent with the tack, theme and tone of the previous stories in your arc; it would have been a dreadful injustice if you'd done all that groundwork and then started 'Prodigal' as if you'd been possessed by a Mary-Sue fan-girl... Other than the simple elegance of your prose - something I'll never be accused of - I am loving the depth of your characterisations, it's so important for great story-telling that characters not only have depth but that they act and react for a reason, something many writers in Joss Wheedon's fandoms appear to have forgotten, so hasty are they in their need to venerate this or that character. May I also note that it is a profound pleasure to read a work that pays attention ot the mechanics of writing (A wagon I, myself, have slipped off of latterly...alas, no time to edit, no beta...yadda yadda [/self-pity]) it makes life so much easier when you actually get to read what is written adn not wince in pain at the indignities inflicted on an innocent possessive apostrophe. Anyway, enough from me. I look forward to more from your fertile imagination and, if I may, significant talent |
| BurumaBabe 2008-06-29 ch 8, | abuseJust wanted to say how glad I was to read the latest chapter! I've really enjoyed your Horseshoe Nails series. Keep up the fantastic writing! BurumaBabe |
| Madripoor Rose 2008-06-24 ch 8, | abuseReally loved your Firefly stuff. Great and in character. |
| Ravenclaw Samurai 2008-06-23 ch 8, | abuseWow! I'm loving your story! Your Horseshoe Nails series is awesome. It was great seeing how you devoloped everyone's relationships - the love interests, the familiy ties, the friendships - it wasn't just a story about Rayne goodness but about the entire crew and how people live. I've just recently become a fan of Firefly/Serenity and I wanted to read some fanfics to help feed my devotion to the series, and I must say, your writing has me wanting more. Can't wait to see what else you'll have in store for this shiny crew! :] |
| ILB 2008-06-21 ch 8, | abuseWell! This was an excellent chapter, but I'm going to use this review for the whole series rather than this one individual piece. So! I only wish I had found it sooner. Even from the beginning, it was great! You write Wash really, really well, and I've read lots of stories that just didn't capture him. I love this bubble you've created; it's Firefly, but then it's so different, as well - it just makes me all shivery and happy. It's well-written, which is wonderful, and then there's Rayne, which is just fluttery and disconcertingly right. Oh, and the story itself (all parts as a whole) is great, too. Engaging and entertaining. And River pours syrup in people's hair. That cracks me up. I was almost hesitant to read this part of the series at first, simply because the one before one was so... well, epic. And I like big, sweeping stories because those are nearly impossible to get in real life, but the picking-up-of-pieces and the "after" from the happily-ever will always be right around the corner; those things can just be so everyday. But! Heh. I'm very glad I did read this because it's still so good, as well! It addressed the problem of Jayne fitting into the family on Serenity, which I'd wondered and worried about since... "Kinship" I think? It was nice to finally have a near hashing out about that. I wanted Mal to just accept him so badly... Heh. Well! There ya go. I love your stories and am very glad I got a chance to read them. ^_^ I'm lazy and didn't want to review every chapter (since I just found the works recently), so I saved up all my praise into one big review! Good luck with the next chapter; I'm eagerly looking forward to it! |
| Lucifer's Garden 2008-06-15 ch 8, | abuseThis whole chapter was just full of 'aw'. Especially that scene with Inara and Jayne. Made me feel all squishy inside. :) |
| Loyeth 2008-06-14 ch 8, anon. | abuseI'm late in finding the story and have been enjoying it. I especially like the formal courting ritual Simon's started. It makes so much sense for him. An Inara's perfect as the 'older sister'. That is so much her relationship with Kaylee. More soon?! |
| twilight seeker3 2008-06-14 ch 7, | abuseApologies for the typos in my review. I am sitting in a hospital waiting room and using a tiny unfamiliar laptop. |
| twilight seeker3 2008-06-14 ch 8, | abuseWell worth the wait. I ADORE the idea of a formal courtship for Simon and Kaylee. Kaylee deserves it and it shouod keep Simon's phenominal ability to bury his feet in his muth down to a minimum. I also found the conversations between Jayne and Inara and Jayne and Mal great. I could truly "hear"them. |
| manda 2008-06-13 ch 1, anon. | abusei dont think you can really understand my love for your Horseshoe Nails series and as i such im going out of my mind waiting for you to finish Prodigal. Please, please, please write faster |
| Kristafied 2008-06-13 ch 8, | abuseTerrific chapter; I love the courtship rituals at the end, and the realization that they've become a real family is wonderful. Well written and a pleasure to read, as usual. |
| Cryptography87 2008-06-12 ch 8, | abuseI love it, please keep writing! I've just re-read the whole series to remind myself how good it is! M |
| debbieja 2008-06-11 ch 8, | abuseI really liked Inara in this. From her talking with Jayne about appreciating his respectfulness even when he called her a **, to helping Kaylee with the ritual, she was really working with those on the ship. It's good to see the crew so happy and embracing their family roles. The acknowlegement of how deep their connections are, even when they don't agree with each other, shows real growth |
