I like it. It's a tough way to learn that your dad is not always the hero or that you brother can't always be there to protect you. On the other hand, even as sick as he was, Dean never let Sam down. But John really burst Sam's bubble.

Sam has finally come into his own I think with this story. He is beginning to realise that his idol is no longer John. And that he can do well without him for he has supplanted him with another...Dean.
John not listening to Sam when he first arrived,thinking that Dean had shirked his this be the beginning of the rift between them? Nice idea here.
I loved the tenderness and how Sam really wanted to look after his brother. My favourite lines..."Sam grabbed his brother with both hands and buried his face in his sweat soaked shirt and sobbed. When a shaking hand stumbled over his back onto his head, it only made Sam cry all that much harder"...simply lovely...squees!

I like the way you explain the rif in the relationship with Sam and John. It being a simple thing as an illness, still makes the Winchesters ordinary. Look foward to reading more of your stories.

Awesome story! If John had just taken the time to listen to Sammy, things would have been back to normal. In stead, this moment started them onto the road of gifhting with each other that would ultimately lead to Sam walking away!
