This is a great story so far, but I'm worried that you'll follow many other stories and ignore a huge issue. I don't mean to say that your story is just like so many others! It's just, Severus becoming Harry's guardian, it's a pretty common theme in the fandom now, you know? Okay, before I start choking on my foot...

My concern is about how you treat Sirius. He hasn't been mentioned much so far. And what I've noticed in other stories is that they either ignore Sirius altogether or try to turn him into some sort of villain unworthy of Harry's love and subsequently renounced in favor of Snape.

Ignoring Sirius can't possibly work, especially in your story where the trauma of Sirius's loss is the catalyst. And I just can't see Harry being easy with the idea of getting a new guardian at all, when Sirius was eagerly awaiting the chance to provide Harry with a home himself, let alone the a man that Sirius hated and who went out of his way to make Sirius miserable and humiliated in his own house. Never mind Snape's deplorable treatment of Harry for the moment! (Please don't use the excuse of he had to do it to keep his position as a spy. It doesn't hold up at all. A spy isn't supposed to be seen as a spy, he's supposed to be pretending to be on the other team! If you're spying on the Nazis in WWII you don't sneer at Hitler and draw horns on his picture. So as a 'spy' on Dumbledore Snape could easily have justified being decent to Dumbledore's golden boy.)

As for option two, condemning Sirius, okay Sirius was mean to Snape when they were kids. Point conceded.

So what? The man was sent to Azkaban prison for 12 years for a crime he didn't commit. He died protecting Harry, just like James and Lily. He tried to give Harry all the love and support that he was equipped to provide. I know he had some maturity issues in that area, but again 12 years of his life missing. And if anybody thinks having 12 years of your life taken from you under the guise of justice isn't going to screw someone up a bit, I suggest they try it themselves.

I'm not saying Harry could never forgive Snape for hurting Sirius, or that he couldn't recognize Sirius's faults as well as Snape's virtues (such as they are), or that Snape and Harry couldn't develop a perfectly wonderful relationship. I just don't think Sirius deserves to be condemned, cast aside, and forgotten by Harry to make room for Snape. Nor do I think needs to be. And most important, I don't think Harry would ever do it.

I'm not sure if this will affect how you write the story. Maybe you'd already addressed all these concerns and this review was totally unnecessary. Maybe you disagree with me entirely and you'll just ignore me. I just wanted to get my thoughts out there early because I like this story A LOT and if you agree, well, I just thought it would be nice to see a story that treats both Snape AND Sirius fairly. They are scarcer than you might think.

hello! may i just take this opportunity to plead for an update? i have read the first 6 chapters on potions and snitches and absolutly love the story! i thought about it for ages after i read it (although chapter 6 was a little odd!) i love Taki and the way he is with harry, i really like his fairly blunt attitude and would love to read more about how he helps harry with his self harm and suspected eating disorder, as well as seeing them both care for harry while he is still sick. so please please find a little time to update (preferably on P&S seeing as i am up to chapter 6!) thanks :D

But Harry can't handle being alone, and shouldn't have to (Snape knows _that_ dance already, and wants better for him than he had himself, however badly he's doing it).

I always did wonder why the Aurors showed up to remind the Dursleys to take care of Harry after _Snape_ found out about them.
