blazevoir 6/10/10 . chapter 76I loved Chiyo. I think that this is actually the first time I have read an OC centric story that was actually GOOD. I'm sure there are some out there, but I usually don't favor OCs involved in a series like this enough to go looking. Some series, such as One Piece and Pokemon, OCs are going to be inevitable, but otherwise they aren't really my cup of tea.
That being said; I Loved Chiyo. I found her to be entertaining, well put together, and actually very refreshing to actually see a girl fighter; as a girl myself, I was kinda disappointed that they didn’t at least have one. I don't remember much of Launch other than she had a Very severe case of MPD and her 'bad' half had a habit of slinging guns around, and Pan, though I liked, I really did, she wasn't really a fighter, and I agree with you; GT just wasn't really canon. Sure it had the characters (who weren’t old and gray), but it lacked the essence, its plots were kinda boring, and it had a really, really crappy ending. I love his kids and grandkids (and now his daughter), but Goku just isn’t the type of man to settle down and have a family. Didn’t Chichi sort of guilt him into it, if I recall correctly?
I'm not really sure if the boyfriend in the end was absolutely necessary, but I suppose if you were closing the story it would work. They did the same through Videl. I actually wouldn’t be that surprised if Vegita tried to gently push (read: force with impunity) Chiyo and Trunks together at some point, to try to continue the Saiyan race, or clan, or whatever. I don’t think Vegita would ever try it with himself or her brothers/father, but I’d be lying if I didn’t see, just for an instant, the possibility of Gohan and Chiyo being more than siblings in the world Mirai Trunks described, given the way she fell. Just sayin’… You’d think he’d do the same with Goten and Bra at some point in GT, but then again, he had mellowed out quite a bit by then.
I can’t be certain, but it seem as though you were moving between the Japanese dub and the American dup throughout the story. Were you? I know the Son part of Son Goku never carried over with the anime, but you called them Saiyans rather than Sayajins. There was also a moment I remember where you referred to Android 19 as Juukyuu(dou?).
Overall, the plot was ok, you stuck a bit close to canon (for inserting a Son daughter), but it worked out well enough. I'm impressed with the way you completely focused it around Chiyo, even to the point that if she wasn't there for something, then we didn't know about it from you at that point. Other than that, the grammar was good, a bit rough in places but it just about fixed itself as you progressed. I look forward to your next (and final?) chapter. Even if it isn’t the final, you still move faster than the canon, though that’s not all that hard at all, as a glacier does too! I also look forward to the sequel id you still plan to do it. I just hope it isn’t a GT! ;-) |
