abuseBeautiful, really! I obsessed over these when I was little, but I'd forgotten how amazing these stories really were. Thanks for reminding me, and for continuing Felicity's story. Really, I appreciate it. Maybe I'll take a trip down memory lane in my library.

abuseActually, 1/3 of brides around that time were said to have been pregnant at their weddings! I think it was in Maryland, but still. I was shocked to hear that. Also, they used to bundle, which meant sleep in the same bed fully clothed, but sometimes they would change that if you catch my drift!

abuseIn regards to the question of sex, they would be past a Puritanical 1600's view of it by Felicity's time. It would be expected that men would have sex, and most of them in cities would be familiar with bawdy houses, but a couple living in the country that had sex or at least wanted to would not be THAT unusual.

They certainly knew about it, especially younger people who grew up on farms seeing animals mating on a regular basis. Plus they practiced bundling in many smaller homes, which was sharing beds with guests. They just didn't talk about sex much, as in later Victorian times. (The word Victorian came to represent prudishness, but Victoria was madly in love with her husband and relished their marital relations. She didn't have that many kids by being a prude.) In the latter 1700's and early 1800's, though, it would not be that uncommon for a couple to marry in their late teens, certainly by their early twenties, and often such couple's first babies would come "early" with all the rest taking the usual nine months. As long as the young parents were married, everyone would get over it quickly.

So, while I agree that this would not be exactly a normal way for both teenagers and their parents to act, it would not be unheard of. As in modern times, you either had to make the best of it, or toss the kids out, and as is often the case now, most people made the best of it, especially if the couples were already betrothed, and their marriage terms pretty much settled.

Physical desire is NOT a modern day invention.

abuseThough I do appreciate your historical accuracy in regards to the American Revolution, I am afraid that I simply cannot see people in the 18th century having been so accepting of sex out of wedlock. Even a family as nice and progressive as Felicity's would have had been bound by the views at the time.

abuseThanks for all the reviews. It's my busy season at work, but the next chapter is almost ready to go up.

As for "the Flame and the Flower" I think I read it in high school or college and I'm 53 now. It might have had a bigger influence on me than I realized. If so, I'm happy to credit Kathleen Woodiwiss for inspiring me. I really do think it's more in line with Irving Stone's "Love is Eternal" though, which is why I like to credit that more.

They're all of the same genre, though, and a good one.

abuseAnd how many times have you read The Flame and the Flower, hm? (Believe me, I've read it enough times to spot the parts that take their lead from the book! One of my favorite romances.)

I really enjoyed reading this. It's so nice to see an American Girl story with such detail to history and such a well-developed plot. You haven't updated since February, but I'll continue to hope there are more chapters soon!

abuseWow. As others have said, a truely remarkable fic! You are able to keep the same personalities of the characters I love while growing them up and making the characters more complex. I am thoroughly impressed with your attention to detail and the seamless way you weave history throughout the romantic parts. You have made me cry in several places with the deaths so far, but they are very realistic. I don't know if I can ever look at my Lissie doll the same way again!! Bravo to you and your increadible talent. I cannot wait to read more!!
