great story! but about you, and your friends argument; You must first realize that you are talking about fictional characters. As such, they can't realy make a concious decision like the one said. Secondly, being a fictional character, or "being" they will not be affected by time. Time is ment for the mortal world, and as such, a "FICTIONAL" creation is constant. the written word is in a sence imortal. the only possible way for one to age, or "be affected by time" as so you put it, is if the creator of said character, or onother sentient being were to add to the fiction ala fanfics. So in conclusion, your friend, from what I understand is right.
