A very sweet story. I like the brief glimpses we have seen of this woman.
As for the poem, most sources I could find said it was by Thomas Ford (1580-1648). w hoasm org/IVM/Ford html and many other sites on google said that.

Wonderfully done. Very mysterious and yet the story evokes emotion.

I did spend some time looking up the poem and all I found is that it is believed to be written in the 1500-1700 era. Many sources include it in Elizabethan verses and lyrics most were published the between 1850-1907.

One source credits Robert Herrick (1592-1674). However I have found nothing to back that up.

Actually to me it doesn't matter because it ties the story up and explains a bit of the bond between the two.

Again a very interesting and different approach. Nicely put together and well balanced with Gables story (which I went back to read).

I really liked this. I know you said 'the end' but now I'm curious and if wrote more about these two, I'd read it. Good job.
