I liked it, but at the same time i have to wonder why they would ride the train all the way to Central city which could take days for a shower. You probably could have had them take a shower at some place Hughes was staying at when he was in East City and not lose much of the story, and really not lose the important points of it.

Overall, I found it rather amusing. It was interesting how many pairings you managed to work into a fairly short piece - my only gripes would be about what you yourself pointed out, which was inconsistency, and some occasions of lack of clarity (when I read the beginning, I thought it was going to be a war!fic o_O)
So...if the prose itself had been clearer, I think it could have been pretty awesome. The characterization was nice, and you had some cute humor going.
