emeraldflame91 2009-06-25 . chapter 1I love this in depth insight into Matt's character. It's perfect and right on target as far as I'm concerned. I've always viewed Matt as a humanitarian of sorts. I mean, it's clear that he also wanted to impress Will and fight alongside her, but Matt seems to be more in touch with his emotions than most of the guys in W.i.t.c.h. and he's intelligent. It doesn't surprise me that another reason for his presence on the battle field has to do with wanting to make a difference. You captured his voice so well. I like the whole thing with Matt ranting/pouring his heart out to Blunk, and the bit about WillxMatt babies. Blunk's line about that at the end had me giggling like a schoolgirl. Same with the explanation as to why Matt being a male guardian wouldn't work out. ;) Nice touch with the song, too. |
yellow 14 2009-02-27 . chapter 1An interesting insight into Matt. Keep writing |
HayLin123 2008-08-18 . chapter 1Awesome. I for one like the idea of Will and Matt together. I'm like addicted to Matt, but I can't help it, he's so cute!I cracked up when he said "I want to have a bunch of kids after all...don't tell her that. It might creep her out."For some reason, I like the idea of Will marrying Matt and they have a kid. It completes their relationship somehow.I should probably stop typing before I start talking nonsense again...sigh
P.S. I love it! |
 Vorserkeien 2008-05-11 . chapter 1Interesting insight into Matt's life.
I'm not really a huge fan of either Matt or Caleb, though I do find Shagon a relatively interesting character. But I still made it to the end (willingly I might add ;)!) & enjoyed it. & you're right, Blunk is the sort of person (?)/character any of them could talk honestly to.
Anyhow, another rare but successful forage into (*shudder*) & WITCH fanfiction - thanks for a great read!

XV-Dragon 2008-01-06 . chapter 1I'm feel the same way about Matt, he is such a bland character. He always seemed ot 'weak' for Will in my eyes and is one of the reason I prefer Caelb or Phobos being paired with Will in fanfiction.
I think the writers realized this and that is why they did the warrior training and later in Season 2, gave him the ability to go Good Shagon, They pretty much tried to make him more worthy of Will (or that is how I intuprit it anyway)
Anyway, great fic. Can't wait for the next update for DJINN and Dark Gossamer Wings. |
the Judge2 2007-12-11 . chapter 1All too often in fanfic, when a writer doesn't like a canon character, it noticeably colors their work. The more immature writers bash the snot out of the character at every opportunity, pinning his/her name onto this distorted caricature that embodies all of the character's worst traits and none of the good qualities, and frequently ends up suffering some horrible and undeserved fate-worse-than-death. Even the good writers tend to marginalize their least favorite characters, sometimes to the extent of writing them out entirely.
While both reactions are understandable, I personally only accept the latter one. I'll even forgive it, if the story is a short character-introspective focused on somebody else, or if it's a larger work and the disliked character had only a minor role in canon, or was a non-central member of a large ensemble cast. On the flip side, if we're dealing with a novel-length or epic piece, I expect the majority of the core cast to show up a few times, even if it's only by proxy (someone else talks or thinks about them, they call from out-of-town/country/dimension, etc).
And this is the main reason why I like MINE. You admitted that you weren't a fan of Matt, but you went ahead and gave him a moment in the spotlight anyway, without descending into literary (or literal) assassination. Writing a short, unbiased story centered on a character you don't like is, I think, at least as much of a test of one's writing skills as pouring out a multi-part series about your favorites.
Also, for the record, I didn't realize it was Blunk he was talking to, not even after the "daddy in law" remark. I thought the whole thing was one of those moments of Fourth Wall Breakage.
Oh yes: "What, was Cedric hiding in the woods or something?"
HA! To borrow a line from CSI's Grissom, if people knew what was out there hunting them...
PS: Apologies for not making my regular review-per-chapter of your other stories. I was recently sucked into the World of Warcraft, and "review time" became "extra time to hunt murlocs and bash 'em over their scaly skulls, DIE you fish-faced gurgling mutants!"
Gah. |
strayphoenix 2007-11-29 . chapter 1Another great roll out. I wasn't really that big of a Matt fan either until later in the second season. I do love the whole 'hero' message you play on. Kinda see of lot of you in this too, kame. Great job
-stray
PS: Why he would confess his feelings to Blunk in the first place is beyond me. lol |
Darev 2007-11-28 . chapter 1I didn't know he was talking to Blunk at all. But I understand what you mean with Matt. It's like a reverse, where the most popular guy dates the shy girl. Their love definitely seems farfetched, but the best usually is. Gotta say, I still prefer Caleb and Will though. Good one!

A J 2007-11-28 . chapter 1 That was like totally on target about Matt. Loved the Blunk angle by the way; it's one of the few people he could probably talk to who know enough about the situation that it wouldn't sound like gibberish after a while. Keep up the great word work, and we'll catch ya on the flipside,

 Chi Yagami 2007-11-27 . chapter 1lol. yeah, I don't really like Matt either. |
 Nemrut 2007-11-27 . chapter 1Hi there,
nice one shot, really gives some insight in Matt's life, I tried that too, even twice, but I got to say, that you managed to put him better into character then me, somehow I just can't pull off the style of speaking he has.
Anyways before I get off track, I really liked the way you reasoned. At first I had similar sights on Matt too, in season one he was not really a main character until the stunt in the end and in the comic books I found him unsympathetic but then season two started and we got the Matt who wanted to fight.
He wasn't a sportsmen, nor the smartest or the strongest, simply the one who chose to, alongside Caleb (he could have become one of the civilians). He started to face opponents even though he didn't have any special powers (at first) like the Guardians or experience like Caleb, yet he wanted to fight.
Then he transformed into Shagon, I don't know but I think he belongs to the most impressive Villains; intimidating voice, cool wings and ,excuse this fan word^^, badass powers, making the enemy hate you to become stronger has to be one of the coolest powers ever.
I see I got off track again, sorry for it, I simply wanted to tell you that you did a good job again. If you are interested you could read my story with Ninja and Guardians as it deals a good time about Matt and his development.
Have fun writing our stories
