do you perhaps know that Xing is based on china and a bit of Japan?
During the ancient times when China was still an imperial society one emperor can have countless sons. There may be assassins sent by the people, but normally that's due to the emperor's horrible ruling, and they wouldn't target at the prince and princesses.
For the majority of the assassination attempts within the imperial family they're sent by the families of the emperor's other sons and numerous other competitors for the throne. Especially when you have more than 50 (girls don't even count in these disputes) brothers waiting in line, there's bound to be a bunch of them (or most of them really) who would want the throne and would go for it with any means possible.
That's why imperial history is so bloody, and it's not only in China that happens. You find something like that wherever there is or was imperial rule.
I think Arakawa sensei is referring to that in Ling's account, though the Xing country in Fullmetal Alchemist seems to emphasize on the ruling clan more, which is similar to Japan's imperial system.

anyways, enough of that.

How do YOU know that there is no more Ling for Ran Fan? There could be a change where they meet again in the future...

I love this group of one-shots, I hope to see more sometime. There needs to be more Ling and RanFan in the FMA fan world, just because they are not in the anime doesn't mean they arn't awesome (and for me, some of the best characters in the manga, right behind Roy and Riza). And I can't wait for RanFan to come back (because we all know she will). I love how you write these! Keep it up!
