Not so much a downer ending. Dumbledore only managed to kill nine more people besides himself with his insanity. And it doesn't seem that any of the people Harry personally cared about, like any of the Weasleys, were suckered into it.

A very good read.

fascinating
Beth Weasley 2008-09-23 . chapter 1
Honestly, I don't think the ending was much of a downer. More like blind idiots getting their comeuppance. *sigh* If only the books' Harry had been as proactive about the war after fourth year. This just proves the saying, "You can do what is right or what is easy, but never both." At least the Dursleys got theirs, too. And no more good Marauders died! A very good story exploring the darker side of real life... 'cause we all know that the books were very idealistic, even Deathly Hallows.

I know I've read this before, but just re-read it, and have to say, I loved it. Excellent job.

Considering how quickly Voldemort took over the wizarding world in DH, it is entirely possible that he could have done it right after GoF. His waiting a whole year, trying to trick Harry into the hall of Prophecies didn't make sense.

Thanks for writing this.

How do you feel about the recent movies on IronMan and the Incredible Hulk?

IDEA: Harry Potter gets recruited by the Avengers, or maybe the Justice League, or SHIELD, or the Bureau of Paranormal Defense.

Agent 1: “How come we need to recruit this kid?”
Agent 2: *scoffs* “Why not? So far, our team consists of an alcoholic playboy (IronMan), an 85 year old man with no superpowers whatsoever (Captain America), the poster child for repressed anger (Hulk), and a wife beating pedophile (AntMan). He’ll fit right in.”

Oh God! I LOVED it! The part I loved most would be when Voldemort got killed by non-magical means!! Ah, that was great.

:D

This being the third of your stories I've read I have noticed a definite pattern in your characterization of Dumbledore, I also noticed it in the chapter "Harry Wakes Up" in the story "Common Sense."
In canon, I feel that Dumbledore's two major faults are that 1)He tries to redeem everyone back to the light side regardless of any dark actions they took. Even to the point of sacrificing others who have never wavered from the light. Connected to this is number 2)That he is firmly set in his belief that he knows what is best for everyone and they should let him run thier lives.
You seem to have taken both these traits a step further. I must say that I admire your ability to do so in such a subtle manner. Each time I see Dumbledore in one of your stories, I don't realize how different he is from canon until a major event shows his extreme nature. Even though I now know that in your more serious stories, Dumbledore will have this characterization, it still surprises me and engages me in the story.
I notice something similar occurring with Ron. Of the three stories I've read, Ron has made minimal appearances. And when he is shown, he is childish and immature. I haven't been able to determine the motivation for this as of yet, mostly because Ron is seen so little. It peaks my curiosity and makes me want to read more of your stories in an attempt to figure it out.

Good story. Extremely well written and oh so true. One very good example of government turning on those who have had to do what was required/ordered would be the American government on those who fought in the Vietnam War. I think this story presents a very realistic view on public opinion toward what needs to be done, regardless of how disliked the actions may be.

I'm very impressed by the gritty realism of this story, and how it analyses the human psyche in a very cynical way. The only thing I was disappointed by was what seemed like an abrupt ending. I'd take a wild guess that if it carried on from that point to more commentary and a bit of speech to finish it off, i might have not felt it as much, but i thought it was a bit abrupt.

Either way though, i am very impressed by your writing technique and your ability to communicate with the reader in such a real way.

Some suggestions for a sequel, a more political story, or possibly, if you want to have a really long project, writing that book that you mentioned as a way of undermining Bones and Dumbledore, all the way, and carrying it on with the one that Sirius was writing.

I hope that you'd carry on the idea a bit more, but i do like it a lot.
