Alias Enigma 2008-12-26 . chapter 2OH, DAMN! Wow... fantastic, just fantastic. Even though it's 'scrunched' into one chapter, I can really get a good feeling of Sain and Florina's friendship and the history they've shared. But my, what a situation! I cannot help but feel I recognize this scenario very well, two friends who grow close together to the point that they fall in love. And usually one of the people involved resists the urge to risk the friendship in favor of something more, but soon they eventually give in. And yet... it doesn't seem like Sain is willing to give in. At all. This would be a sad thing, yes, and I do want Sain and Florina together, but I find the direction this fic is taking to be fascinating to say the least.
On top of that, I'm impressed to see Florina portrayed as a strong character, which is a breath of VERY fresh air for someone like I, who has usually just written her off as someone who's unlikely to talk to other people, let alone do any fighting. I'm really starting to warm up to her, and Sain as well, to say nothing of how much I approve of them as a couple.
I also really like the scene near the end of this chapter, where amongst the music and the moonlight, Sain starts to see the woman he dances with in such a different light. It's a situation I've been in myself more than once, so this touches with me on a much more personal level. I just hope Sain can open his eyes and see things as they are, unlike I did. xD
Again, you've written with a wonderful combination of deep emotions and humor, elements that usually don't get along, but you do a great job of mixing them. I hope I don't sound like some fawning, rambling fan, but it's a little difficult for me to convey exactly how much I'm enjoying this fic. Just know that I am /eagerly/ awaiting the next chapter, and can't wait to see what happens to Sain and Florina next! Good luck! |
Alias Enigma 2008-12-26 . chapter 1Wow! I must admit that while Sain is not my most favorite character, nor is Sain/Florina a couple I spend a good deal of my time cheering for, I was very delighted with this chapter! And as far as that goes, this first chapter at least read more like a Sain/Priscilla or Sain/Women story than anything else. I suppose I've rarely thought of Sain as a 'ladies man', often thinking of him as a hopeless poet, a hopeless flirt, a hopeless 'knight in shining armor', or something else with 'hopeless' attached to it. But this fic shed some light on him that was very fun to read!
Poor Fiora, a helpless dancer; Serra, a gossip as always; and the notion of sharing a tent with Isadora 'for warmth' made me laugh... everyone was colorfully in character, both alone and the way they interacted with each other, which I think was the best part of this chapter.
And how awful for Priscilla to be resigned to such a fate... Good thing Sain was there to comfort her. I thought that whole scene was written very well; a finely-tuned blend of wit and compassion. I was about as shocked as Sain was when Priscilla kissed him, but then again, I suppose it does fit into place with everything else that's going on.
Needless to say, I've been very impressed with your first chapter (not to mention surprised how much I'm enjoying a fic centered around Sain of all people!) and I'm off to devour the next.
“I think I liked you more on the brink of death.” w00t! Go Fiora! xD |
renaisrider 2008-12-21 . chapter 1Good job! This story was very cute and romantic without being overly cheesy... I felt like you really kept to the characters.
You are making another chapter, yes? |
Regina Ricae Mortis 2008-02-08 . chapter 2Aww...Cute and fluffy. -smiles-
Pfft. Sain-sama's an idiot. Doesn't know what he feels. -laughs- |
bblonski 2008-01-28 . chapter 2I' glade I finally got around to finish reading this. Man, I had stopped right before it the major changes you made towards the end too. It's a little hard for me to believe someone like Sain would be quite so clueless when Florina started hinting at her feelings. He was a little TOO dedicated to being just a friend to her, but his realization near the end made up for that.
Besides that, the story was pretty cute. I definitely got a kick out of the waltzing scene. Staring at her feet eh? Reminds me of someone I know ;). I think my favorite part was when Sain is holding her close when they are waltzing.
“Are we supposed to be this close?” she whispered.
“Of course.”
“I don’t believe you.”
That moment was funny, romantic, and adorably cute all at the same time. Good job.
It was kinda long for a flashback though. You could have used a little better transitions in some places. At times it seemed like you were just relating a series of scenes. Lines like "It seemed impossible that the woman walking toward him that night was the same one he had met more than a year ago. But she was." seemed too obvious and unnecessary. Of course, I tend to favor subtlety.
Can't wait to see what you come up with next. |
Legend of Shadow 2008-01-07 . chapter 2Well, this is just a wonderful piece of writing. I completely love how you write for Sain, just as I've always imagined him really being - a bit of a goof and flirt, but a genuine one. Your dialog suits him perfectly, among the best I've ever seen someone make of Fire Emblem.
Your Florina is interesting as well. I've read the complaints, and to be honest, this is just the sort of thing I've been waiting for. It's normal for someone excessively shy to make a good friend, and become more open in a surprisingly short amount of time, and the image of Florina busting a gut right in front of Hector is amusing to the point where I'd like to see that scene drawn by someone.
All in all an excellent piece of writing, and I really can't wait for the third chapter! |
Wyrmseeker 2008-01-01 . chapter 2This was beautiful. I'm so glad I joined the circle, or I never would have found this fic. Your writing is nearly immaculate. I'm afraid I can't comment on anything specific about your style, but in a way, that's a good thing; if there are any flaws, they're overshadowed by the beauty of the rest.
Your representation of Sain is definitely the best I've ever seen in a fanfic, and I believe it also holds true to what the game's designers wanted him to be. It certainly is refreshing to read about a Sain that isn't just a skirt-chaser, but actually cares about the women he says he cares about.
You've already had a lot of people complain about your Florina, so I'll try not to talk at length about her. Still, she seemed a little OOC overall, and it was odd how she went from not recognizing Sain as a man to being in love with him. Hopefully, you're planning to address that in the third chapter; if not, you may want to consider it. And the language she uses seems a little odd coming from her mouth; it's closer to how Sain speaks than any of the other characters.
But that's the only issue I have so far with this fic. This is definitely one of the best I've ever read, and I'm looking forward to the third chapter. |
Lemurian-Girl 2007-12-25 . chapter 2Beautiful chapter. I would have preferred if you had elaborated a bit more on their time together, what made them grow close and whatnot. It would have really added to the character development. Still, great job and lovely chapter. Can't wait to read more!:)

Lemurian-Girl 2007-12-25 . chapter 1I've been meaning to get around to reading this. A very enjoyable story you have here. You write Sain's dialogue very well, and I rather liked how you started it, ending the chapter with simply "Florina". You conveyed everything well this chapter. Good job! :)

Aayvee 2007-12-23 . chapter 2very romntic, although idon't think that sain was actually that smooth in the games
As for florina, I do like the pairing with sain even though it is not in the game. you said three chapters, right? I'm looking forward to the last one |
Gunlord500 2007-12-23 . chapter 1Hi there, Kitsilver! Gunlord from the lil' Circle of Reviewyness here, reviewin' your fic as requested :D
There's not much I can say. I couldn't find any spellin or grammatical errors. Very nice work! This is a very sweet fic, and it shows that Sain really does have a sweet side, all while remaining our favorite lovable rougish scamp. :D Good job, thanks for sharin' it with us! ^^ |
A very odd fellow 2007-12-20 . chapter 2Ah, this was a wonderful piece to read. I drew particular enjoyment from the first chapter; incorporating the supports into helpful dances was a brilliant touch. Also, it reminded me of my own prom: going alone and dancing with all the girls! Someone has already commented on my only concern, which was the speed of Florina's transformation. However, I think if the reader can incorporate a willing suspension of disbelief for that instance, the rest of the story is flawless in its presentation. I am somewhat disappointed that there is only one chapter remaining, but I hope you'll continue in the realm of Sain fanfiction in the future.
Best wishes,
Avof |
JSB 2007-12-20 . chapter 2Excellently done, I must say. I'm really impressed by this, I may have dedicated myself to writing Sain based stories, but I have yet to master his personality as well as you have. As a fan of Sain and Florina as a couple, you have my gratitude for writing this.
I couldn't find much to comment on...except for a few parts where you had told us what had happened between Sain and Florina, instead of showing through their actions and dialog.
I look forward to the next chapter, and I wish you the best of luck.

Lady Lyndis 2007-12-20 . chapter 2Poor clueless Sain. I sincerely hope that that wasn't the end of the fic. It can't end like that! It can't! Either way, though, excellent writing again. :-D |
Lady Lyndis 2007-12-20 . chapter 1Aw... Sain is such a flirt, but he's sweet too! I loved this chapter, and your portrayal of him was perfectly in character as well as showing more of him than we usually get to see. His going around cheering up every sad lady in the camp with a dance was a neat idea, and you didn't linger too long on any single one (not even Priscilla). Your writing as a whole is concise, descriptive, and a pleasure to read. :) |
